No. The majority of the cards work out of the box.

It also works with a FD, I tested with the SSD on the card and the HD on the internal ports.

when you say:
which theoretically gives us 1GB/sec bandwidth across all four drives
it means even if i put 3 ssd raid O (samsung pro 840x3) in the raid card i can´t go further than 800 MB/sec

Correct. I'd expect about 650-700 max though.

And what about boot camp? Can I add 2 SSD, first for OSX and 2nd for Win7 64bit?

Someone told me that Win7 need a "signed" driver, and Highpoint provide only unsigned driver, so an installation of Windows 7 64bit is impossible (only 32bit).. Can you test it?

You can turn off the unsigned driver checker thingy and then it should work.

Windows can see the drives attached to the SATAIII card so I see no reason why you can't install to it too...

i confirm that it's running fine, ou of the box !

I found Rocket 640L for 60€
Orico BRP525-2S optical plastic bracket, withe the same design of your Silverstone one for only 6,5€ on Ebay
2 Akasa SATA3 60 cm cables 2,5€/p and a splitter for power SATA 2€

The Rocket 640L working out of the box without any driver or firmware patch, very speed.
The card is bootable, of course.
I will put my results here monday.
The Orico enclosure is a good deal too, i can put 2 SSD and one 3,5" HDD in it, very quickly.

With the same SSD ( Samsung 830), this is my result on the rocket 640L
I will make some RAID test this week ...

I don't see much point to be honest, it will bench the same as it does on review websites? It works and works well is all that matters.

If I'm asking you this question about the boot time, it's because with the PCIe 2.0 Apricorn Velocity Solo x2, we lost 10 second on boot time. I mean the natif SATA II of the Mac Pro is 10 second faster then the Apricorn PCIe card 2.0 x2.

Secondly, honestly not a clue without taking it all apart to swap the card to sata 2.

I get to the desktop in ~30-40 seconds, so I can't imagine it's adding anything to the boot time.

Why does it matter? Keep it asleep instead?

Well when the boot time of an SSD are not better than a HDD WD Caviar Blue 1TB, I do not think it's great.

To return to the PCIe 2.0 x4, is there any SSD that have succeeded with this card to achieve 500MB/s? I note that all the benchs I've have seen on this thread does not exceed the 46x MB/s in read? Is it the limit speed in read of that card?

I don't know what your doing but my SSDs boot faster than a velociraptor let alone some 7200 disk.

To desktop with no HD I/O is half or more faster with the SSD.

The card should be able to do up to 800MB/sec. Here is one of a few reviews showing faster than 500MB/sec.

I tried a Raid config on the 640L With Samsung 830 and a Samsung 840 256Go.
I had 710 Mbits/s read and write result. I suppose that it's the limit of the Marvell controller on the card.

It's good result for a 60€ card !

For the booting Time, it's same thing using Rocket 640L, velocity x1 card or noname ASM1061 : 10s loose in checking between the power On Burton and the chime ... After it´s very fast !!

I tried 2 card ASM1061 in raid 0 mode With my Samsung 830/840 ... And obtain very similar result than 640L card : 700Mbits/s. Read and Write

Well something really isn't right then, because mine boots a hell of a lot faster on my 830 via the 640L than it did with my 300GB velociraptor on onboard SATA!!

Thanks for sharing the results and they are valuable for people making decisions on what to choose for SATA 3 add-on. I was originally considering RocketRaid 642L but I have no need for RAID and wish they have a non-RAID version. Instead of waiting for the non-RAID version, I ordered two ASM 1061 cheap cards for experimentation and feel much better after reading your post.

Je pense qu'il faut vraiment en avoir rien à faire du temps de démarrage d'un ordinateur pour ne pas s'apercevoir qu'on peut parfois perdre 10 secondes par rapport au SATA II natif avec certaines cartes PCI Express 2.0 x2 or x4.

SATA II is the fastest SSD I've ever had. I've tested a Crucial C300 256GB Plextor M3 256GB and under the same conditions and the new Samsung 840 256GB Pro is by far the fastest. It saturates the SATA II read and write almost as one with 26x MB / S. I've never seen a new generation of SSD to be as fast as SATA II, especially on a Mac Pro.

SATA III with the PCIe 2.0 x4, it must tear grave.

This is apparently because the Power On Self Testing takes longer with the Velocity X2 card installed. It's no big deal the extra time is only 10-20 seconds & I don't reboot very often. Applications start up faster as the read performance is about 500MB/s whereas with the SSD in the drive sled the read performance is about 250MB/s.

If a PCIe 2.0 x4 or x2 must slow down the boot time of my computer for 10 seconds or more, then I'd rather do without. My Mac Pro is not open 24/24 then boot time is of importance to me.
