I have decided on a 15" MBPr, my choices are for under 3k in Australia are.

1. New 2013 2.4 8GB 256GB $2,499 Apple store
2. Refurb 2012 2.3 8GB 256GB $1999 Apple Store
3. New 2012 2.7 16Gb 512GB $2799 reseller, which is $400 less than 2013 one.

I have a 09 27" imac that has a new HD and extra ram, so am thinking the refurb but no 3 seems a good buy and would be future proofed for more storage, speed, incase my imac goes bung.

I compared the new base imac 27" to the 15" retina in shop and the retina was just so much nicer.

For most folks #2 is the best deal. It's a lot cheaper than the rest and it has plenty of performance. The 8GB of RAM may seem to low some folks on this forum (and folks who read too many articles on it), but I think it's more than sufficient of 90% of people's needs.

You can't future-proof a computer—that's $800 you've saved? That's upgrading your computer in 2-3 years instead of 4-5 years. In the long run, you're getting a new computer more often.

Now i am in a flap, found a Brand new 2.5 8GB 256GB 13" MBPr for $1589. which is $260 less than Apples current model. In Australia.

Its too hard to decide. Seeing as i have a iMac 27" maybe a 13" will do. I have a home office and want something to move around the house. Just not sure how much use i will get out of it till i get it?

Do you need quad core - dedicated graphics - 15" display?

Can you return if you don't care for it?

I have only about 6Gb photos, just use iPhoto and iMovies a bit from my iphone and camera. Nothing heavy.
My imac can handle more, it has a new HD and more ram so is going great for 3 and a bit years old.

No its off Ebay so can't return it, could re sell it though.

From your use the 13" would be great - I am not a big fan of eBay. In the US prices are high in my opinion.

ebay is great for iphone cases, and minor stuff...Not a Mac

Just found out I can get the 2.6 256GB 13" from a local store for $1765 and claim back the tax $160, the Ebay one is 2.5 and they can't give me tax invoice.
