I know it's an old computer, I am really looking to get it just to play around with. I have a late 2012 Mac Mini and an HP laptop for any real work I need to get done.

Just curious if it's worth it.

That's the usual price, yes. I have a 499 myself.

If you're going to run OS 9 on it, I say go for it. OS X is nice on it, but you're going to have a hard time with the small hard drive in there. I don't recommend taking it apart just because it's a PITA to do so though.
 
Back in the days iBook G3 gets up to 5 hours web browsing. But something that old might need a new battery.
