'HiddenApps' Hides Stock Apps, iAds and More on Non-Jailbroken iOS Devices [Update: Removed]

I got an email from apple directly after downloading the app. Says my account was used to download the app to a device that the account had not previously been linked to... never had that happen before?

Could be coincidence, but...

Grabbed it! Now got two apps on my phone that are no longer in the App Store - this and VLC 😀

I'll probably never use this in all honesty but hey you never know 😛

I know little to nothing about app development, but how could this be done remotely?

Apple even has to approve all updates, so how could an .ipa be remotely modified on Apple's servers 😕
 
Apple, deal with these default apps!

Default apps is something Apple really needs to deal with in iOS 7. Fine, they were okay when smartphones were relatively a new technology and people needed a head start with their devices (and Apple needed a way to sell them) but Apple really needs to make some of its apps optional.

I'm not talking about the Phone app or iMessage...I'm talking about Newsstand, Stocks, Voice Memos, Reminders, Compass and Passbook. These are all apps that some people may find very useful but others just won't and don't need them constantly hanging around their devices. They got the right idea with iBooks, why did Newsstand need to be a default app? I'm pretty sure I don't know anyone who has ever found any use with the Stocks app.

Just make these apps optional! What's the harm? iPhone doesn't need any built in apps to get it off the shelves! People know what apps they can get without them needing a few "start up" apps. DEAR GOD LET US GET RID OF STOCKS IF WE SO WISH! These apps can be pre-installed, but should be removable if that's what the user wants.

Signed, a frustrated iPhone user. (Don't get me wrong, the rest of my experience is great...JUST LET ME DELETE THE APPS I DON'T WANT!!)

The problem with Apple's approach to the App Store is that the only real mechanism that they have to check whether or not an App does unauthorised things is by Apple actually using it.

When you're using an App, you have no idea what it's doing behind the scenes. You have no idea how the programmer has written it. It might be doing something very useful, or it might be doing something completely malicious.

The App could simply be designed to check online to see if the hidden features should be enabled.

Jail breaking my iPhone slowed it down so so much it was awful 😡

I had to revert back. I couldn't take it anymore!

Ditto here. Just downloaded, tried to use it and then dumped it - absolutely NOT user-friendly and more like a hack - the shady "you have to download an app that will fail to install" doesn't impress me at all.

Apple should just pull it from the store before people start complaining.

Apple does have the ability to remove apps remotely but they've never used it in the past.

Jailbreak and download NoNewsIsGoodNews to get rid of that or SBsettings to get rid of everything else you don't want.

No matter what I try, I can about anything into a folder with the except of Newstand 🙁 It will not go away.
 
How many default apps are you not allowed to put in a folder - mail and newsstand? My god first world problems here...
 
downloaded it on iPhone 5 and not working
all I get is black screen then app close's
reinstalled it and restarted phone. same problem
phone is not jailbroken also
 
Grabbed, installed, get stuffed News Stand! Your blatant money grabbing advertising days are over 😀 Begone you poison on my homescreen!

That's what it's meant to do, and it's designed so that the download fails and you then remove the icon. That's how it hides iAds and stock apps.

Yes, believe it or not, some of us have no intentions what so ever to purchase and view magazines and books from Apple on our iPhones, and we would appreciate the ability to remove Apples app off OUR devices homescreens as it's a blatant money making advert for Apple. Android isn't this bad!

I love it when apologists tell me why I should be happy with the way Apple has things, because they clearly know best.

Can you explain a reason why Mail and Newsstand shouldn't be put in a folder?

I would say crashing is a good reason to reject your app. However, I get your point that they may be more detail oriented at times.

See here, this is how the app works, there's nothing shady going on. The popup may very well come up after hiding the apps because it might have taken time for the download to fail on your phone. The site it tries to connect to is owned by the developer too.
