I have an early 2009 Mac Mini that had the superdrive go bad. I purchased a new one on ebay and put it in and it works fine, but when I do a software update, it says I need a firware update. That update goes fine until the very end when it fails and says I should quit any programs that are running. I feel like I've tried everything. I reset the PRAM, booted from and an external disk, killed off processes I didn't even know what they do, etc. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The drive I replaced the old one with is the identical make and model number. The only thing I can think of is that it use to live in an iMac and somehow has it's firmare set for that, in which case I think I'm stuck. I don't care that the firware never updates, but I'm trying to sell the computer as I bought a new Mini and really don't like selling things that are "broken".
