EyeTV 2.5.3 and DivX

Well, you may also upgrade to eyeTV 3. It is £59.95 at the elgato.com online store.

I still use 2.5.3 (on 10.6 and 10.8) as well. Any particular reason why you don't export your files to H.264?

compatibility and no taxing the computer resources, I use AVI. H.264 and MPEG compression sometimes give problems to computer/video users....

I generally use the Apple TV preset which creates a H.264 encoded file at a resolution of 720x576 that (to my eyes) seems very similar to the MPEG2 original. You could alternatively choose the H.264 (quicktime format) preset which would allow you to explicitly set the resolution, data rate and other parameters.

It's the version I use with EyeTV 2.5.3 on 10.4.11 and 10.6.8.

Divx v7.x.x v8.x.x & 9.0.x for Mac all use codec version 6.8.3.5

DivX v6.7.x uses codec v6.6.0.0

One reason I stick to EyeTV v3.2.1 (Build 5721) is that it deals with reception breaks in the MPEG stream nicely. I had difficulty with audio being dropped or stuttering video after reception breaks due to electrical interference in the broadcast. I installed various versions of EyeTV and tested with two sample streams, deleting Elgato's Mpeg2 codec each time.

However, one thing I cannot get away from on 10.6.8 is very bad artifacts when encoding to DivX compared to 10.4.11. I've tried updating EyeTV, DivX, re-installs, and even disabling the Nvidia hardware encoding kexts (on a MacMini with Nvidia Geforce 320M). After many days trying to resolve it, I've given up for the moment.

As a result, I'm considering going to h264 and also investing in a USB h264 hardware encoder.

does anyone know where I could find a copy of EyeTV 2.5.3? I have a licensed copy of EyeTV 2.2.1 and I would like to update it to the latest 2.x version. thank you!
