Phones Anyone make the jump to GS4?

waiting for a 32 gb so I dont have to worry about app space since you can only install them on the system memory. I will get an sd card, but can only use that for music, pics

hopefully some minor hardware issues are fixed(if any) and a patch for att is out by then. I can upgrade in late may. May be mid june depending on wwdc

They can keep putting in the most cutting edge multi core mobile GPU's and double the RAM in Android phones, but the software will always create a bottleneck for the hardware. And the fact that a lot of apps are iOS ports means that a lot of software won't fully utilize the latest Android phones hardware anyways.

Heh. Sure.

You look at any negative post on this and indeed any forum and generally, Android users are far more vocal about the bad points of iOS than iOS users are about the bad points of Android.

That's because there aren't that many bad points about Android. Generally if you want to make Android do something, you can.

Hearing iFolk make comments about lag and useless features gets old after the ten thousandth person does it.

Oh sorry I thought could see beyond their rose color glasses. You can think whatever you like, but if you just opened your eyes and started to read some of the post on this site, you would not be saying this. I get you like iOS better, and that is fine. The point is just as many iOS users trash android for not being smooth as android users trash iOS for being to plain. It goes both ways whether you think so or not.

If by better you mean more bloated and poorly optimized. It's like they half-assedly through everything they could think of into that phone....

IMO, the HTC One is the best Android phone out there right now. Sense offers an elegant, minimalist design and a couple features that are actually useful.

Also, for the price you'd pay for a 16GB (actually 8GB usable) GS4, you get 32 GB (27 GB usable) for the HTC One.

Now jrswizzle you know better than to use a term like "the best" when it comes to phones. That is your opinion not fact. I like the nexus 4 the best and it works for me. I would never use or want Blinkfeed, so that would be something that is unwanted that I could not get off the phone. Again it all comes down to preference.

OK I miss read your post. Also I am not stupid I know what IMO means. I just miss read it.
 
I got this as a work phone and was excited until I took it out of the box and held it for the first time. It honestly feels cheap. The Note 2 had better build quality and I don't remember the S3 feeling this bad either. HTC One feels much more like a premium phone and it doesn't lag like the S4.

You can see the lag right away when going from one screen and then hitting the home button a slows down right in the middle of transitioning. Also when you open upa folder it lags too. I didn't have this problem with the Note 2 either!

I just installed the new update that AT&T rolled out so hopefully performance will be better.

I think Samsung added to many features to the S4. From what I have heard if you turn off some of the features that no one ever uses. It really speeds up the phone.

Yep, they threw everything but the kitchen sink in - but at the detriment of user experience / GUI performance. They can probably keep on rolling out updates fixing it along the way - but it does show that Samsung need to rethink the strategy of adding features that either hurt performance or need far more optimisation.

It also shows how just having the latest version of Android doesn't automatically equate to better experience.

Yep. My note 2 runs just fine and I would say it is still just as fast as the S4 and HTC One. Samsung just did too much. At least you can fix it by turn off some of the features that do no good.
 
Loving my galaxy S4 easily better than my iphone 5...big plus to iphone was notifications but they are just as good on android with the notification widget and light flow

Love it... Screen. Battery life isn't great so far but I've let the phone die and now charging again. Lets see how it is after it charges... Not sure what would cause battery to drain

This ! Unless you have a nexus devices 😀 it really shouldnt matter what ver. of android manufactures ship the phone, i take android skins as separate OS 🙂 seems htc did a great job this year.

I agree. It seems some people want to consider skins as equal to android. Skins have become so customized that you cant any more. Touchwiz is so heavy on top of android it slows the S4 down. HTC for once made sense 5 a skin worth having.
 
Samsung Galaxy Note 2

I have used the iPhone Edge, 3GS, 4 and 5. Love Apple everything. However, this past December, I switched to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Have not looked back or regretted my decision at all. The switch was way easier than I thought it would be. Still love Apple, but now love Samsung. I have a deep respect for iOS and Android. I am not a Fan Girl. I just love good products.

And that surprises you considering you're posting on MACrumors?

That's specifically why I mentioned 'around the internet' rather than 'on this site'. This site will obviously have a pro-Apple bias - but around the internet, Android users are far more vocal about iOS's drawbacks than iOS users are about Androids drawbacks.

How many times do you see "Why did you buy a GS4, the iPhone is much better" compared to "Why did you buy an iPhone you sheep, the GS4 is so much more open and customisable. I can do what I want with the Galaxy. Can your iPhone do this? Or this? How about this? Really?".
 
I've just switch to the S4.

Positives:
+ 5" screen & video watching hands down over the iPhone/Touch
+ Look, feel, customizability of Android widgets hands down over iPhone/Touch
+ Air Features (ok... it's debatable 😉)
+ 13MP camera and HD video does a great job
+ Export iTunes Playlists to a 64GB SD card using simple sync software

Fails:
- Phone regularly and randomly ‘drops and restores’ SD card (known issue)
- A SD card drop erases above Playlists (solutions = store playlist on device)
- Earphones quality < iPhone/Touch
- The built-in ‘Video’ app crashes when using the folder view (downloaded another one)

Epic Fails:
- Android is obviously a close cousin of Windows: apps fail on a regular basis, info/settings disappear
- Car Bluetooth link drops every time phone goes to sleep – seriously, it’s 2013!? (Who has a solution?)
- Could not register with Samsung as GT-I9505 does not exist in their list of devices 😕

Bottom line:
* Android devices are nowhere near iPhone/Touch when it comes to stability
* If you are anal about your music and iTunes management of files, Android is NOT for you
