I'm always handling plain text files with abnormal file extensions like .input, .output, and others. I'd love it if Finder would actually remember this like the checkbox suggests it will and open other files with the same extension using the same program (namely gedit.)

Does anyone else have this issue? Googling for it didn't seem to turn up any results. Does anyone have a solution?
 
Click on the file, get info, change open with, then hit the button under it to change All, that should work.
