When I think about it, the iPhone isn't a top 10 smartphone

I don't want a list of features I'll never use I mean what stands out that sets them apart to the average consumer? I do email, Phone, text, the odd web search, and social networking. My phone does all those very well and simply. I don't have to download software to make the phone faster, or jailbreak anything, it does it well. I think this demonstrates that some are more bothered about features than others.

Haha I'm sure there are some here that truly believe that. The question is how many of you would admit to girls that you spend your time on the internet talking about mobile phones? lol I know I wouldn't, 'nerd alert!!' lol Most of the girls I know use iPhones but that didn't even enter the equation when I bought mine. Perhaps I should start strapping it to my belt buckle, put out the vibe and watch them flock? 😛 🙂
You don't take pictures? Then I can see why you wouldn't use Zoe
You don't take screen shots? I can see why you wouldn't use swipe for screen shot
It's a lot of useful things being added to individual phones and that's what makes one better than the other.
Otherwise they would all be the same

I take the odd picture, but only to forward to Whatsapp or iMessage. I don't take screen shots no. Although most phones now allow you to take a screen grab don't they? Mine does but I haven't found a general need although I have tried it. I am aware some have features that others don't but everybody's criteria for what they want is different. This is why being told one phone is better is stupid IMO. What is better for one person might not be better for the other.

But the same could be said about the iPhone.
It's easy to come on here and say why phone x isn't a standout phone, but the brutal reality of the last 18 months is that the pack have caught up. Apple need to give customers a reason to buy a new iOS device other than the 'You're too lazy to change from iTunes that has propagated over the lat half decade or so.

When I came from the S3 to ip5 to me it felt like a step up, but many others would disagree and opinions here back that up. I hear people claim iOS needs to change as its stale, but I hope it stays much the same. I don't think apple need to constantly try and match a market they aren't pulling all the stops out to compete in. Just my opinion.
i agree that this is the android era, but i cant say that the iphone doesn't take a place in the top 10 smartphone list. it should be around the 7th or 8th position.
I think that's a fair assessment.
The flagship handsets are out there and the recent releases have upped the bar in a number of areas that Apple used to excel at (Usability, craftmanship).
I'd probably have it behind the GS4, HTC One, Xperia Z and Nexus 4 right now, and I can't say I know enough about the other Android phones to make a judgment.
The smartphone industry is everyone vs everyone right now, whereas it used to be everyone vs Apple.
No, quality of the phone determines the top 10.
Which is why gs4 and the one are the 2 best
Quality in what way? Cuz the iPhone 5 is certainly of higher build quality than the GS4.

I have a GS4, and I think it's a great phone. But the build quality is an utter joke and it's way overpriced.
HTC- don't get me started. I'll never buy one again. So I guess I'll never know how great they are.
I'm not sure that you know what "top 10" means, man. Sales is everything. If your numbers aren't good, you go under. Apple and Samsung are the kings right now. That's not my opinion, it's a fact.

That you think the Lumia 920, Touchwiz GS4, and Nexus 4 are better than the iPhone 5 is outright comical.
-Lumia is fat, heavy and the camera is average outside of low-light. Not to mention the crappy battery life plus dim/over-saturated screen.
-Nexus 4 has a washed out screen, crappy speaker, weak radios, throttled CPU/GPU, crappy camera, crappy battery life, and limited storage options. Stock Android mitigates none of that.
-GS4 Touchwiz only gives you 8GB of storage out the box which is just a none starter.
My top 5 phones (based solely on out the box hardware) are;
1.HTC One
2.GS4 GE
3.iPhone 5
4.Note 2/Optimus G Pro
5.RAZR Maxx

I think people don't understand the difference between build quality and build materials. The HTC One is made of great materials, but has poor build quality (look at all the reports of gaps and antenna problems on XDA). The S4 is built with plastic, but feels expensive and sturdy.
What is this crap about being overpriced?

GS4 costs more than the HTC One here in the UK despite shipping with less than half the storage of the One.
So? HTC needs all they can get at this point. That means undercutting the competition.
Just because you can get a loaded Hyundai for less than a BMW, doesn't make the BMW overpriced.

No, i'm not buying that.
The price of a high end smartphone is £530 as set by the 16GB iPhone 5. 32GB HTC One cost £530 (or less in some cases). All other flagships cost £470-£480.
GS4 cost £558-£580. Similar story even with subsidised pricing.
Why? plus you'll have to spend more money to mitigate the storage issue.
Its not even the BMW of phones either. More like a luxury high-end Toyota/Honda. All the bells and whistles (plus extra) of similar high-end luxury cars from other brands, but still drives like a Toyota/Honda...and is overpriced.

What's wrong with the galaxy s 4 build quality? I haven't seen any build issues with it

You only get what you pay for if you are maximising the potential of all the extra features. For those of us just doing the basics, any flag ship phone on today's market is suitable depending on user preference. You keep stating why you feel the GS4 is the best, but this is based on what you want and use it for. The features you listed earlier don't interest me and are not something I would use so are lost on me. This argument that the iPhone is not a top smartphone is simply lame. Its one of the best selling in the world so demand is there. You can't compare the market based on an exclusive segment of consumers who enjoy using every single feature a smartphone has when the vast majority of people do virtually the same day to day tasks on their phones.
I personally think this 'best' rubbish is just to satisfy the ego's of some people. Away from here do you really think people in general care what phone others are using? Probably not.

Which automobile makes and models would fit in the top ten for you? Is it all just best sellers? Does market share play a role? I ask because pretty much all super cars would fail to make any lists based on that criteria. What's my point? Top ten has nothing to do with market share or sales, unless you want it to. A top ten list is defined by the user making said list. It doesn't seem the OP of te thread has market share or sales in mind at all, which is ok. You do, which is ok too. Everyone's top ten is going to be different.
