I know it's a rumour site...

Anyone think they'll be any new or updated Apple TV hardware at Dev conference?

It's just I'm wanting an Apple TV for my sons birthday a few days after the Dev conference and want to know wether to wait or not.

Cheers

I don't think you'll see a new apple tv until they release one with H.265 support. Probably next year.

IF they do announce a brand new AppleTV at the WWDC, then why don't you give him a Birthday card with a note saying that he's getting an AppleTV whenever the heck Apple decides to release it. If he's the type of geek who looks forward to such things, then he will be willing to wait.

But if Apple mentions nothing about the aTV during the conference, then that could mean it might not even appear in 2013. Which means.... buy your son another last-minute gift.

Can't see how we would have a new ATV at WWDC. Any new ATV would run iOS 7 and could not be released until IPhone 5S is.

Yeah...even if there is an announcement, it's almost certainly not going to be..." And this new ATV is hitting the stores as we speak"

True but at least I'll know and then I can make an informed decision which one to buy.

In my experience once a new product is announced, there's not much old stock, and people wait to buy the new one anyway

I predict we see one sometime between WWDC and September of this year.

:apple:TV Gen 2 - Released September 2010
:apple:TV Gen 3 - Released March 2012

That is about 18 months between generations which would put us at September 2013, the latest IMO.

Hmm... I'll also be interested to see if there are any Apple TV developments at the WWDC. Macrumors has the Apple TV as a 'Do Not Buy' for some reason, but I haven't seen or heard anything that would indicate new hardware will be on sale any time soon. I just bought (another) one on sale at Target today, but I will be not be opening it until after the WWDC, just in case.

I'm hoping we at least see an update that enables new services that have already been announced, like the CW and HBO GO, and hopefully some other enhancements.

No announcement, although they did announce Wifi support for the new 802.11ac standard in their Macs and Airport.
That's a 3x speed boost over 802.11n, plus other bells and whistles.

Wait for that to appear on AppleTV - an update can't be far behind. The more bandwidth the better when pushing HD.

Nothing new for ATV3 except iTunes Radio.

802.11ac am going to guess will require ATV4.
