2013 11" Battery Life Thread (real world)

It's not the same size ....11' vs 13' ..every mm makes a difference under that aluminum cover....!
Also, there's a whole lot of discussion pertaining to samsung (256 & 512SSD) vs sandisk SSD (128GB) and ofcourse samsung one is faster
& then we have a MAMMOTH discussion still pending on "HEAT issue" "FAN issue" for i7 vs i5?
So far i have NOT seen anyone Complaining about an i-5
1 user ranted about i-7, waiting for more rants to finally take a decision and order this 11'

The issue he's talking about is heat dissipation on the 11" chassis vs the 13" which will have an impact on how often the fan kicks on.
So basically the movie playback real-life results are 2 hours less than Apple's claims and at least 33% lower than all those "stressing" browsing tests the popular consumer tech reviewers got.

That'll depend on the memory configuration. For example whilst 4x1GB memory chips will use less power than 8x1GB memory chips, it doesn't mean 4x1GB memory chips will use less power than 4x2GB memory chips.
If you look at the iPhone there's virtually no difference in power usage between a 16GB and 32GB version, and the only difference in the configuration is the memory chips. 2x8GB chips in the 16GB iPhone vs 2x16GB chips in the 32GB iPhone I believe.
Guys even the apple store sales specialists are saying :
If you are NOT into video - encoding & making music - then I-5 will handle all your needs and you do nOT need I-7
After hearing lot of people having cooler machines - no fan noise - no battery issues
I finally ordered my 11" i5/8GB/512GB SSD
The reason I went with 512Gb SSD is because of its phenomenally fast read & wrote speed 750+ way better than standard 128 and perhaps even more than the upgraded 256
And also now I don't have to worry about buying an external HDD for It although I have 1 with me - a 1TB western digital passport - but having it connected to air defeats the portability purpose
Also I was Preety much sold on the idea of rather taking a 256 SSD in Air and buying the new time capsule 2TB for 270$ than upgrading to 512SSD but after a detailed study I realized that ---- the 2tB is only used for taking scheduled backups via time machine & I am not an FBI agent who needs to look at a changed or deleted photo from last year or 2 months back - so made no sense to me to have all that back up
I rather will plug in an external HDD much like a windows world and cut paste the stuff that I don't want on MacBook Air 512 SSD as it fills up over a period of time
I know I may have missed out on the 6 antenna and 802.11ac speed and the dreams of having a wireless printer through it (but I don't have one and don't plan on printers at home) ...I know an external HDD can also be connected to time capsule but for me there's no value in simply having that external HDD be available wirelessly on the network as we rarely like to share it on the home connection on 2 other laptops and would rather PlUG and play when needed via USB !
I think if I ever do go with sleepless nights of thinking about "802.11ac" speeds - I can get a super slim and very small AirPort ExPress when it will start supporting 802.11ac (& i can have all my devices have a better speed and connection - but thats something apple has to innovate more to install 6 antenna into it but i think that may not happen with a very small size) as size and weight factor matters a lot to me 🙂
To everyone else who bought an AirPort Extreme - do you see any value in simply buying that and not spending another 70$ to rather get the 2tb and time capsule ?

interesting, but for me I still think about get a time capsule instead of having ssd512 for two main raison.
1st you can choose to have a part of your time capsule only for the storage and not for the back up. You can also like you said couple an other external DD to it so you can cheaply get 2+1 TB storage. And finally I can have in one device something really user friendly to store my all my files without a cable as well as a very good wifi device that fit perfectily with the new macbook air.
I didn't know that you can have part of your time capsule for storage too, is there any guide on creating this functionality?

musika, it is exactly the same base air as the one I have (i5/4gb/256) and the one I did all the tests, I'll be returning that one and the ultimate today to the Apple Store near me.
I purchased the same one Amazon yesterday just to save the $80 tax fee (no tax in Florida) and the Time capsule was tax free too.
I already did the tests and I love it.

You went with 4gb too? I've been using it all week for real work and as I've said before I'm a mess with a million open apps, tabs, 3 browsers VMs, etc
Not a single problem, cool, fast and no fan noise.
Do you still have the Safari issue crashing on the i7?

Yep. I decided to try it completely stock. It's a secondary machine, anyway.
I haven't had Safari crash since that first time. Battery is at 30% after 4 hours of Safari browsing, iMessage, and on and off music.
I came up to that conclusion too, I was going crazy on tests and forums etc for my mobile laptop to be used as a secondary machine.
If I was buying an iMac for my main desktop workstation use that is a different story as I need to make sure it will really fit my needs.
For a secondary machine the base model is perfect at a great price.
I understand that people can't wait to have a decent test and try to feel confident about the i5 choice but here's a new benchmark which show great performance for the i7. Of course like always (probably only the NSA knows) they don't talk yet about the battery.

I personally did the test between both, I do not need to feel confident, I know that the i5 works great and much cooler, quiet and better battery life than the i7, I can wait an extra 50 seconds for an iMovie project to export.
Got our Macbook Air 11"/Corei5/8GB/256GB yesterday around 1 PM. After booting it up, spent roughly half an hour installing apps. My Mom has been using it intermittently the whole afternoon yesterday mostly for checking email, using MS Word and Excel and some Skype. As of 10AM this morning, she is still doing more work and the battery is still showing 20% juice. Quite impressive!
Sorry to say but this is what i meant earlier in my post:
1. TIME CAPSULE itself does NOT allow to use the 2 TB memory in it to be used as a normal HDD in which you can cut and paste files from your mac or windows
So basically, all that 2TB does is a non-stop back-up
