Retrieve data from an erased HFS+ drive with only free software?

Hello there,

I need to retrieve the files from a formatted HFS+ HDD, and for the purpose of this demonstration, a GUI would be a big plus. I already know foremost from Ubuntu, but it is not exactly easy to use, doesn't come with a GUI, and I am not even sure it would be able to read the HFS+ filesystem.

Other suggestions?
