I recently bought two X5355 CPU's to put in my Mac Pro 1,1. But when I go to remove the fan array it seems to be stuck. The top seems to come off fine but it seems that the bottom right is stuck in the back or something. I read to use a PCI cover and try to pry it but I wasn't sure if prying it on the CPU heatsink is a good idea. Any suggestions?

Try a heat gun, or maybe hairdryer to loosen adhesive. Make sure there isn't some bolt or clip you forgot, as well.

Well there is only one screw to remove at the top of the array and thats it. I don't think there is any adhesive though. Could be wrong.

I had a 1.1 too once, and remember taking it apart to clean it up, there is no adhesive anywhere.

Maybe have a look at some teardown guides, maybe there's a screw you're not seeing or something?

Finally with enough force I got it out. So now lets just help I can get the CPU's up and running and have an Octocore Mac Pro!

Good!

Just be careful and take your time, and you shouldn't have any problem.

If you ever built a PC in your life, this should be easy!
