I recently bought this Pioneer blu-ray burner for my MBP (2011):

I can burn DVD-Rs without issues, but it's not recognizing the BD-Rs I have (Philips, which are compatible according to Pioneer). The BD-R blanks don't register with Toast or with OS X system info...the burner does show in both, and DVD-R blanks register with both.

I'm using a powered USB hub, which again works with DVD-Rs. Same thing when I plug the burner directly to the MBP.

There's a firmware update I can't install because it's an .exe (at some point I can do it with a friend's PC, but I don't have access now--is there any way to upgrade the firmware without Windows?).

Any ideas?
