How to remove a network thingy when it's 'not there'

Hi Folks

I have after using a USB 3G modem I now have an icon stuck on my menu bar (see picture) that I don't know how to get rid of. I've uninstalled the modem software and all. It's not showing up in network preferences. When I used it a couple of years ago the icon disappeared when I got rid of everything. This time it hasn't.

Any ideas?

Try holding Command and dragging it off the toolbar.

Or go to System Preferences and Network and uncheck the option to show on menubar.
