Sorry if this has been posted before, but am I able to connect an Airport Extreme to my modem, creating a network, and then wirelessly extend said network by connecting an Airport Express to a different modem in a different location of my house?

Well if I was to setup an Airport Express to extend my Airport Extreme's network, wouldn't the extended network be slower? Which is why I was wondering if the extended network would be faster if the Express was also plugged into a separate modem.
Plus if you Mac model does support N wireless frequencies (see the difference between G and N at the blog post Difference Between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wireless LAN) and get the true 5 GHz speeds.
