awesome!!!!
i want a new iPod desperately, and i need to replace my Onyx Powerbook due to broken hinge. There are 3 of the best car races on the continent happening this month, and to top it off, my birthday is this month!
i like october :D

Lower priced PBs would be awesome, but what would be VERY cool is if the PB line went HD with their displays, in addition to getting a dual core G4 processor. If that happens, I'll be in line to ge a 15" or 17". :)

I just hope that it's not a 33 MhZ speedbump...

Now do you believe me?

From my earlier posts:

Intro: Approx. Oct 7

Will be thinner than the iPod photo, but not as thin as the Nano.

Click wheel is a bit smaller, allowing for a larger display.

At least one (or all) iPod Video units will have WiFi. Airport and Airport Express will have a video out for your TV.

I am still not sure of the capacity but with news of the new 80G drive... hmm.

Price has not been confirmed but the source says "not far off" when I suggest $400 to $449 including the WiFi.

Of course, more if I hear anything. But we are close to Oct 7!

Whatever happens, I hope they use a lower power processor. I'm happy with the performance on mine, but the bloody thing gets so effing hot I can't stand it!

The Powermacs should be the last to get Intel, so updates with the dual-core G5s makes it a lot of sense.
i would have tipped the powermacs and powerbooks as going intel first. after all they have always had the new chips before everything else in the line and apple have already established that intel chips will be able to give better performance than the g5.

as soon as the intel chips start coming out it would seem like a stupid move to me not to update the high end machines first.

Hmm, 20GB 1-inch drives next year - leaves room for a iPod Mini Color

If they move the "standard" iPod to 40 and 80GB, that leaves plenty of room for them to eventually do 10 and 20GB iPod Minis when the new "perpendicular drives" are available in those capacities next year. I'd still prefer an iPod Mini over the Nano (I feel the Nano is too small) but would love to see them with color screen and 10-20GB drives.

True, but the *Books are in the most urgent need of a CPU upgrade. Sub-2GHz G4s just don't cut it when 3GHz Intel laptops are eating away at their market.

Peein in my Pants

AHHHHH!!! lol Imma love this update. If the ipods do go video i will be SOOO HAPPY! I've been saving up almost a year for a Powerbook, still have a long way to go, but im gunna be starting a windows computer service that will bring in more money. I cant wait!!! And even if it might be wishfull thinking, a Intel Powerbook.... MAYBE... lol

New PM's i can understand, but new PB's?, surely the intels aren't ready yet, and if not then i doubt they would release another G4 this soon before the intel switch.

We shall see, there was also a rumor (sept 9th) floating around iTMS Aus should be out tomoz (3rd oct). Could be a big month for oct.

I don't think there will ever be a powerbook G5, especially with the Intel conversion. I'd consider a G5 powerbook to include a G5 processor - to be on par with the PowerMac. ( Not just because it contains a G5 processor thus name it G5 - its Generation 5 ).

An Intel PowerBook would be G6?

So...does this mean that the PB G5s are coming? Good!!

I really hope Apple put some innovation into the iPod, rather than a half hearted attempt. WiFi would be excellent, as would Video... all at the same price. Yes I can dream!!!

( Video doesn't have to mean commercial Movies - home movies etc would suffice. )

LISTEN TO THIS GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He had the first info on the nano

I'm not expecting much from the PowerBooks--but get them out so we can move on to Intel PowerBooks at MWSF :) (I can dream, can't I?)

The new PowerMacs could be great, though--and if they've gotten the full-size iPods smaller, that certainly makes the iPod Mini even less necessary.

I bet full-size iPods will be available in black (non U2).

I don't expect video functionality--or at least, not as any big deal. Maybe as just another extra in a bullet list. It would be cool, but less useful than photos even, for most people. So I expect the iPod will stay music-focussed. No models that put video ahead of music.

podfuture has me wondering, though :) Apple sometimes does something new that makes sense in unexpected ways. Like iTMS, for one.

I don't believe you. I think you're just a figment of my imagination.

By the way, why October 7th? That's a Friday, are Apple doing their Friday release thing to avoid the media on this one like they often do with their software updates? One would think with such a big announcement it would warrant perhaps a Tuesday or Wednesday release. Ah well, time will tell.

im going to kill myself if there is a major powerbook update. i just bought a powerbook last week and no not literally kill myself.

Won't make your PowerBook any less functional or cool so I wouldn't worry. You may also be able to swap it for a new one, just ask either Apple or the store you bought it from.

Oh, ad if you are going to top yourself, can I have your PowerBook? ;) :p

My sources were good on the Nano. A little less info on this ipod video but hey, this is a rumor forum so we post what we have.

Oct 7 is a Friday.. I found this unusual as well.

Your record on the Nano was quite impressive.

I hope your right with the next iPods.

How much Money do You really think Apple is going to invest in new Powermacs? Not to long we will be on Intels.

Actually, the PowerMacs will most likely be the last Macs to go Intel, sometime in 2007 - definitely not just around the corner. Apple is most likely eyeing the Conroe/Woodcrest chipsets for the PowerMacs, which are not out until mid-2006 at the earliest, so I doubt we will see an Intel-based PowerMac until 2007. As a result, a dual-core PowerMac with some significant upgrades is definitely warranted to tide us over until then.
