Lot of Kernel Panics with MacPro 3.1 & flashed GTX 570

Hello all,
all of a sudden and without any apparent reason, my MacPro is get a lot of Kernel Panics. From the crash report, it seems to be related to the flashed GTX 570 card.

I have two HP 2448 monitors connected to it, one to DVI input and the second to the display port input (via a DVI-DP cable). I also have a Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme with latest drivers (9.7.7).

I have two separate 10.8.4 systems with CODA 5.5.25 and both crash at what it seems random times.

Not sure how to debug that. I just hope that the video card is not dying on me.

Looks like vga related panic

Have you tried osx drivers from nvidia website?

Is your gtx570 flashed, if so where it comes from?

When you say VGA, you mean like a faulty cable?

I bough the card from MacVidCards. They did the flash.

About NVidia drivres, I couldn't find any for the card, only for CUDA. Can you provide me with an url?

I actually had the same problem, mine was a GTX 580 flashed by MacVidCards. I had some image imperfections from day 1 when I received and installed the card, emailed MacVidCards but I never got a reply back. I tried every Mac Nvidia driver that I could found on the web, did several installs of ML. Then I started getting kernel panics and the card died on me after 3 days. I brought it to the local PC repair shop and was told that the VGA chip is dead. To this day I still do not know what kill the card:confused:

I have the feeling that will happen to mine too.

Could the PC shop repair it or did you have to bough a new card?

Anyway, I have updated with the latest drivers from NVidia... Let's hope for the best.

As every new card generation comes out there is a "golden" time during which there have been no failures.

As the weeks and months go by, slowly but surely the failures start appearing.

Right now, I have not seen a single Kepler failure. (ie, GTX6xx/7xx)

HOWEVER, the GTX5xx failures are definitely picking up.I end up with boxes of cards that died as "hot potatoes" that I got stuck with. Every year or so I make a run to the electronics recycling facility. I try not to think of the cost of all the dead cards as I hand the box over.

Please have a look at the emails you got from Ebay order and find our email address and contact us directly regarding these issues. When you ask a question on Ebay via an item no longer for sale, it is much harder to see.

Even when a card dies out of warranty we typically offer a reduced cost replacement or upgrade.

The exception is the dreaded "capacitors of shame". These are a row of tiny caps on backside of card just above the gold connectors that go in slot. The single most common source of card failure is an eager install attempt that misses the slot and instead scrapes a few of these off. SOmetimes we can fix this, but it is unpleasant work.

Yeah, those read error panics indicate some kind of hardware problem. My understanding is that the driver panics when it reads a bad value from the GPU.

Looks like it.

MacVidCards has been very generous with their offer for a replacement card. It's in the mail and I should get it soon :)

After a week with the replacement card, I can say that the cause of the KP was a faulty hardware. My mac hasn't crash this whole week. :D
