Why is the new MBA only 1.3 GHz?

different generation of processors. Clock speed cant really be used to compare CPUs across generations.
The Haswell chips in the new Airs even at a slightly lower clock speed are more efficient and powerful than previous generations.
The newer 4th gen Intel Core CPUs can perform more instructions per GHz. This means tremendous battery savings since the higher the GHz, the more power the CPU requires, the less battery life you get. In fact, the newer 4th Gen Core i5-4250U found in 2013 MBA is a hair faster the 3rd gen Core i5-3337U found in last years MBA. As an example of what these guys said, a Pentium at 3.0GHz is less powerful than the i5 at 2.0GHz or even less
This is true of many other things like WIFI speed, but no longer true of processors, which takes the path to increase performance not by raw clock speed but increased parallel processing.
Well, the 1.3 MBA gets higher browser benchmark scores in Mavericks than my 2.4Ghz quad core rMBP

Besides, its not 1.3 Ghz, it will dynamically over clock itself up to 2.6Ghz on demand (http://ark.intel.com/products/75028).
