Contacts > Calendar displays birthday 1 day early, but only for some years!

I entered my father's birthday 18 January 1928 into Contacts v7.1 on my iMac OS X v10.8.5, but it displays in Calendar v6.0 one day early.

Here's the funny thing though: If I change the birth year in Contacts to 1938 it displays in Calendar on the correct day.

I tested 21 decades from 1808 to 2008 and every one displays in Calendar correctly except the following five: 1928, 1978, 1988, 1998, 2008.

This appears to be a bug in either Contacts or Calendar. How do I go about getting this fixed?
