I use GMail (with 4 accounts) as my email provider.

Several years ago when I had a Macbook Air with 256 GB SSD, I stopped using the Mac Mail app, since I was under the impression that since all email is stored locally, it would use up much more hard drive space (and I was running out, largely because of music and photos). I then switched to using Mailplane with is a "wrapper", of sorts that handles multiple GMail accounts well.

I'm starting to miss some of the iOS/OSX integration that would be more seamless if I started using Mail again.

Now that I have a 512 GB SSD (MBP), I'm not as pressed for space.

My question: in general, does Mail use a significant amount of storage for email (GMail)? I like Gmail for it's archiving ability, etc. Just wondering how that all integrates with the Mail App on the Mac.

(This seems like a pretty good article on how to make Mail and GMail play nice: http://goo.gl/Ntzgm, although it's not specific to Mavricks. Feel free to share anything better... )
