is the smart cover suitable for resting on your lap whilst in bed and watching TV?

Does it fall over?

like in this position

You're still going to have to hold it a bit. I have the smart cover (not the smart case) and it's pretty much the same. I find that I would like something better then the cover for bed time watching/reading. I have been thinking of a Zagg keyboard cover/case for my next iPad Air purchase.

i do mean the smart cover and not the case as pictured.

i like the idea of taking a case on and off so quickly

I don't think that the Smart Cover would be quite stable enough to stay upright on a lap or bed. I have a hard time getting mine to stay up on a flat table.

If you want a stand/cover that will not fall off, then do not buy a smart cover. Unless you are putting it on a flat surface and you are not moving (i.e: train, car, etc), it will constantly tip over or it was fall off.

I had a Smart Case once and returned it as I found the viewing angles were not enough. But in bed where it isn't desktop flat, you would need to hold the iPad to stop it collapsing I would expect at that step angle.

I'm getting this case for my iPad Air, the case should be here today:

Although I've never had this case before, I have had the same style (albeit without the portrait view option) of case in another make, I have used it in bed and the iPad doesn't collapse.

you will have to hold it, also if you doze off it will slide off your bed and hit a side cabinet and smash the screen... can you tell I'm experienced in this field

I've just received my Targus Versavu iPad Air case today. Thought I would post some pictures and some info about it.

It does not have the magnets in the cover to auto sleep/wake the iPad's screen. I went around the case with a paper clip and there was no area where the paper clip got attracted against.

I have a thin magnet off of a fridge magnet. I expect it would be easy enough to cut a little nick into the inside of the cover and slide the magnet underneath the fabric to then give you the auto sleep/wake functionality.

Here's some pictures I took of the case:

Retaining lip to hold the band which holds the cover closed:

The Versavu provides 5 possible viewing angles which are the 3 provided with the ridges, 1 from lift up tab, and 1 from the collapsed view this one would be more for typing I would feel.

Various viewing landscape viewing angles:

Collapsed typing view:

Mmm…accessory porn! My body is ready for the iPad Air. But my bank account must wait a bit longer.

That case is probably the worst choice

The ipad is so light that just about anything will work

I use a special ipad pillow that I like quite a bit called the 'Wedge-E'

But the name has change now to something else (Google)

This pillow is what you want, trust me :)

If you want to watch TV in bed I would instead recommend a Mini. It sits very well on your chest and isn't really a burden to hold in one hand, and the Smart Cover sits pretty well on its side.
