For data integrity one should go with Xe's since they are the enterprise storage WD offers. Blacks are for people who want speed, not protection. RED is a compromise on both accounts but better than Black for RAID.

This is interesting in light of the warranty WD offers on their drives. XE and Black = 5yr, Red = 3yr. That is curious.

Then buy 4x2TB WD Red drives for $440--still cheaper, still better than the regular drives included with these Pegasus rip-offs... And with twice the space.

Of course. Nobody wants to buy those TB boxes with drives inside. They charge premium for the drives and the ones they are installing are not the best drivses one can get anyway. Hoping for more driveless TB enclosures in 2014. The only reason I don't own a Lacie or Pegasus box yet is because they sell them with drives.
