Mail app suspicion

I went into my mail app to read new mail but I seen something that I haven't seen before. When I selected my mail account I seen an envelope icon from macrumours above inbox. The strange thing is that inbox was greyed out so I wasn't able to go into it so I pressed the envelope icon above and the icon seemed to fall into the bottom of my screen in an animation similar to when downloading something on the new safari browser on mac osx. What could this be. I am a bit worried? I am running iOS 6.1.2.

No I used the mail client - the iPhone's Mail app. i didn't use the web to view the email.
