iCal frozen mid-extra-long event, can't cancel

I cut and paste into an iCal event that was too long, I guess, and now the event goes off the bottom of the displayed page and there is no way to cancel the event, and it won't let me escape from the event or do anything else within iCal. It is completely frozen. When I force quit and restart, it just reopens in the frozen event. I've tried Googling solutions, and looking in MacRumours for 'frozen' 'iCal' without success. I'm completely stuck.
Suggestions??
