If you hit the 'Store' button in the App, after selecting 'View Gift', or navigate to the episode in iTunes then you can select the single episode and get it for free.

I think I read that the gift may depend on your geographic location.

This is true. For example the Dutch don't have TV series available to them
in iTunes, so something else would have to be offered.

Not being cheap - but what a crap way to market the 12 days app. Booooo.

I actually think it's very poor UX design in the App myself. The episode is free, just not obvious to most how to get to it.

People really suck =/

Apple doesn't need to give away anything yet people still complain like they are entitled to something. I don't like Timberlake yet I knoe my sister will probably love it.

On the other hand she doesnt care for documentaries, yet I love them and Africa is one of the est in years, this to me is a great gift for free and am eagerly downloading it now.

Getting something for free doesn't negate your right to complain about it. Of course, it severely limits your ability to expect anything to be done about it…

That said, I'm just a little disappointed. I thought this app would be like an app-version of a "goodie bag" (not really sure how that would work though.) At the very least, these gifts should've been available only to people who have the app; not simply a region-specific set of shortcuts.

Why don't you wait a few days at least to see if there is anything useful to you? The gifts are not just for people over 20, there are a lot of people under 20 who have an iOS device.

There have been books and movies in previous years. The app is around 65mb not 150mb.

Same every year, people moaning the first gift is not what they wanted.

65mb is the absolute minimum, which ever increases, until the system dumps the space because its pushed to the reserves, at the time of my writing it was 145 mb,next time ill post a screenshot.

Next, its 3x gifts, the late being a game of some puzzle sort with 80's graphics and looked ugly and washed out, its not our fault if they raise the devices capabilities and ppl using them every day more and more and for ever increasing more different activities, i'm very supportive of the Apple experience but when it comes to a massive marketing overhaul (12 consecutive gifts are a wow-factor, i dont remember Microsoft doing it for example) im definitely expecting a balancing compromise from Apple and the users so it turns a win-win situation.

Until now the first 3 gifts are so rigidly targeted to a teenage to early twenties crowd, that compared to lets say the packaging obsessiveness to make everything perfect, doesn't fit to Apple's image in my mind, and obviously many additional ppl. It stirrs these conversations and keeps Apple on the daily news. And i will never accept so to speak a freebie just for the other party's sake if its repeatedly lousy and screaming it. Its not just black and white here. And ladt time i looked Apple was the wealthiest billion dollar revenue company worldwide. That's why i liked Jobs' way of either going for the best he could offer or scrap the project. Remember how many times he said "... Products we would suggest to our families, friends, ..."

Would you offer timberlake, lorde, etc to your family/friends? Oh and we dont all live in the US, there are other "cultures" worldwide. Thank you.

BBC Africa here in Australia - day 2. Am pretty appalled the 'gift' is $4.00 off the season pass, bringing the total payable to $19.95 HD and $15.95 SD - I thought these gifts were free? Not being cheap - but what a crap way to market the 12 days app. Booooo.

The first episode is free.

I would, and that's because my family and friends like that stuff. I don't, but I still respect their opinion as I know how it feels to have different opinions and everyone thinking they're crap compared to theirs.

If you're not happy with the offerings, then just don't download them. Apple doesn't owe you anything except good customer service for the product you bought.

was there ever that many decent gifts on this? an episode of father ted and soundhound was the only two i remember.

It would be really good for those of us without iOS 7 if you could post the exact name of what you got and the country you are in, even better a link to the item in iTunes.

I'm sure I saw a post saying someone got a game on day 1, but I can't remember what it was.

Alan Partridge Christmas special!

Rats. Just tried the link to Kalahari but couldn't get it or even see it in the US.

And not that it matters to anyone but I did like the Lorde offerings, just not the Day 1 and Day 2 offerings. D1 had poor sound quality, D2 pretty old and probably free already.

Free is Good

Always like free stuff, even if it is pretty pointless. It's basically going to be just kind of cheesy samplers of things, nothing of real value and something to make you want to "purchase more." So the JT one is designed to make you want to buy the 20/20 Experience (which I didn't like), or today's Once episode, designed so that some folks will like it enough to purchase more eps. Pretty sure it'll be like this for the next 11 days.

I'm hoping we get a movie - that I don't already own, even if it's a bad movie like RIPD... Don't know why people are wasting everyone's time complaining. What did you expect $50 Gift Certificates?

----------

I wish Apple would have more flash sales on MP3 Albums like Google and Amazon does. At least once a month they'll have great deals on solid classics - I bought a bunch of cool albums for $3.99 (like Katy Perry, Flo Rida, older J.T. etc) - on iTunes they were still $9.99. Got Miley Cyrus for $5.99 - don't care what anyone says the girl has some pipes.

I'll pass on this one. I'm hoping they gift some of the iLife and iWork apps.

I'm thinking the goal is not to give away valuable stuff that existing iDevice owners would pay for anyway.

It seems more like a "guided tour" of the app/music/book stores for new iDevice owners: Turn them into future customers pronto.

not gonna happen, been using this app for about 4 years

I hate people. When I saw this thread title I just knew there'd be loads of people moaning that they don't like the free stuff Apple is offering that they are in no way obligated to download.

ILife and IWork stuff is already free.

I appreciate Apple doing this, only hope the gifts improve.
I downloaded Timberlake and couldn't even finishing watching the videos. Promptly deleted
