I think the 2nd gen is only good for music. That's a great price.

4.2.1 runs plenty of apps. Even 3.1.3 does for simple use. Music; video; apps, and internet.

This iPod does what later versions perform. albeit a bit slower.

As far as price? It'll probably head north of $50. toward the last few moments of the auction.

$40 is an appropriate price. In fact, up to $50 for an 8 GB 2nd gen. I'd recommend getting a 3rd of 4th if possible though.

4th generation models are really cheap, the 8 & 16GB models can be found for under $100. I'd also recommend going for a 4th generation if you have the money.

In a pinch, the 2nd generation will do all that you want. However, all newer apps will require iOS 6 or higher. Some new games and apps require at least 7.0 or higher now. Something to keep in mind if the apps are new then they won't have old compatible versions for iOS 4.

I am somewhat surprised how cheap this one went for. Seems like a lot of value for the cash.

Based on this thread I think I can do the same thing with an 8GB iPod touch 2nd gen:) I also have one that is engraved... Do people still buy an engraved iPod touch 2nd gen? States "Yankees Rule!!!... Zachary" I got it a long time ago when I was 13.
