Popular iOS racing game Real Racing 3 has been updated with a real-time online multiplayer mode through Game Center, a significant update for the game. EA has also added a pair of new super cars, the McLaren P1 and the Lamborghini Veneno.

Our sister-site TouchArcade has a brief first impression of the new multi-player mode:
We haven't dove into the new multiplayer mode just yet, but our own forum moderator Killer Cow offers his own first impressions, saying "It's actually pretty cool. You can only use certain types of car, there are tournaments where you can earn up to 500 gold ($60) and you can see the total number of players online." Hey, sounds good. The multiplayer is only for up to 4 players, which is kind of disappointing compared to what was on offer in previous Real Racing titles, but at least it's a start.
Real Racing 3 is a free download for the iPhone and iPad from the App Store. [Direct Link]

I love Real Racing 3, but I wish they added more tracks instead of more cars.

I've been playing for a while now and I'm nowhere close to getting the more expensive cars but it's getting boring racing in the same tracks over and over again...

Anyway, this update sounds really nice with the new live multiplayer mode! I can't wait to try it out! :)

Yes real time multiplayer was definitely needed as a number one priority but number two should be additional tracks rather than cars

Yeah I'm with you on that, I'm getting a little tired of the tracks. I don't know if I'm just a terrible player or what but it seems like it's getting harder and harder to win these races. Especially when you always start from the back, I really wish there was a quali since I'm always in the top five lap times.

The most frustrating thing
Endurance (where cars just stop in front of you)
Staring at the back each time, and time again :(
Potential is there, but I think developers need to go see some real racing!

Isn't that the main goal of the in-app purchase games like RR3? Being pretty much forced to buy additional content...

This game is unplayable due to forced delays, part of the pay-to-get-ahead system. Too bad, this could have been a solid game with a premium price.

Could also get additional revenue from selling ad space on virtual billboard signage and brand names plastered on safety walls too, as these are non-intrusive and realistic visuals anyway.

But microtransactions and forced delays just suck the life out of the game.

Fun game in spats, but so damn expensive if you want these new car updates. 900 gold is £70 for one ********** car! Ridiculous. All these new cars but always out of reach without spending some serious dough.

Just hack the game like many have and earn about $2 billion in gold and $2 billion in dollars skipping the micro transaction like SONY GT6!!! :D

Total cost $0

Lots of haters for the IAP model.

My boy is 7 and loves RR3, I probably wouldn't have bought the game at £10.

The one thing that was missing was realtime multiplayer, so bringing this in will be a great addition, I haven't tried it yet mind :)

It seems like the payment system is the only thing about RR3 anybody is capable of discussing here... I like it. As someone who only plays once in a while I can't justify buying expensive apps, and RR3 is totally playable without paying anything, it just takes longer to get new cars.

For me the biggest flaws with this game have always been the horrible AI and lack of real-time multiplayer. The visuals and driving dynamics are great, but TSM is a joke. The AI cars just get in the way and you always start at the back. I'm really looking forward to seeing how real-time multiplayer works here.

That's good, because it's not anywhere near £10.

I have 27 cars I think, several fully upgraded. Well progressed in the campaign. You can get a lot of freaking hours out of it for free.

Just some info before you upgrade RR3

Real Racing 3 Version 3 1.5.0 [H141] Original sale dates for Cars.

The Update to Version 2.0 from 12/17/13 or what ever Version it's called
Cancels out the ability to change back the date "In Airplane Mode"
to gain access to the discounts on advertised cars.

* = Duplicate car dates, Note the discounts on different dates.
Some dates have more than one car available, IE. 10/22/13

If you own the car already it will not show up for sale.

If you have a problem seeing the car for sale in the upper left corner.
Click on a race and back out of it.
Look again and it should have a number 1 in the tab.

As for racing for R$ and Fame.
I suggest the BMW M3 GT2 ALMS "Not even fully upgraded"
in the Accolade Open.
Cloudmusiq Intercontinental Tournament Round 2
CUP Melbourne.

At 6:10-6:30 Minutes a race Break assists on
I average 98+ in R$ and 8000 in Fame and leveling up in 5-6 races.
With a full team, Agent etc...

Race a short race Such as a "Speed Snap" till you get all three team members.
Go to the above race be sure to click on all three team members, and race.

when the race is over click "retry" only.
minimize and open the date and time area on your device.
move forward 4 days, set date, minimize, open game.
click continue. boom! you have all three agents again.
Race and repete the above.

IMPORTANT:
Remember the date you left at because that it where you can only get your team members again.
Also remember this is all done in Airplane mode.

Note: If you have not guessed or done so yet.
Changing the time in airplane mode also speeds up car upgrades, Delivery, and Service.

Where on earth is the promised mac version??:(

Yep, I'd rather play this on my new iMac, with huge 27" screen and stereo speakers blaring. For a glorious racing game the glory is lost on a tiny iPhone screen.

RR2 came out for Mac and iOS roughly at the same time? But I'm speculating that the MacOSX version is absent for RR3 because they changed into an IAP system. It's well known that IAP is profitable and lucrative in mobile devices, but IAP sales are not so hot on Mac/PC computers.

I don't get the appeal of Real Racing 3.

It really reminds me of NFS ProStreet - a boring, tasteless, style-deprived, repetitive, feed-the-pack racing game dressed up as "realistic".
