My wife's iPhone 5 has suddenly stopped responding when plugged into a charger or into a computer to sync her info. Unfortunately, this happened and the battery ran out before she was able to back it up, meaning there are a couple of months worth of photos/videos of our kids stuck on the phone and unretrievable.

She went to the Apple Store which confirmed that there isn't any water damage evident so it is likely a defective driver on the phone in the Lightning input. They recommended a company in California which wants the phone mailed to them for diagnosis, but expects a very expensive data retrieval. I am therefore looking for an iPhone repair person/shop (other than an Apple Store) located in or around Westchester County, NY/Northern NJ so we can get another estimate and keep the phone more local. We will do an internet search, as well, but looking for anyone with firsthand positive experiences with a specific shop. Thanks in advance.

You went to an Apple store and they told you that you have a defective phone and did not offer to fix/replace the phone at the store?

They offered replacement, but they need to keep the old phone for that to happen, which mans all non-backed up data is lost. Photos and videos of our kids were worth checking out other options first. If all else fails, Apple has a replacement phone waiting.
