Wow...that was entertaining. Obviously didn't watch every minute, just kind of skipped through it, but it was almost painful. How anyone could sit through that and think it is real tech support is beyond me.

Gave serial number to MyTechHelp.com

While trying to get in contact with apple support I called a number. After I gave my serial number because they said they were apple I relized they were not. Now should I be worried of anything they could do with my serial number? I read online after that they would spam credit cards after people were tricked into buying hardware warrentys. Though I did not give my credit card to them. Should I worry about them having my serial number?

I recently placed a call to mytechhelp.com because my keyboard wasn't working. Long story short I ended up giving them my iMacs serial number. I didn't give anything else. I soon realized that this wasn't apple and **** my pants because I divulged my iMacs serial number. I want to know if someone can remote into your system with just a serial number? Or other hazards of giving out your serial number. Pardon my ignorance here guys.

No damage done here although it's never a good idea to give away stuff to "unknown" people.

But, if I were you I would stay away from such sites, they charge an arm and a leg, better ask here on MR, plenty of knowledgeable people.

They can do absolutely diddly squat with your serial number, so don't worry one bit.

I Googled Mytechhelp.com for a complaint history and the results are very negative.

Yeah as did I. Big mental blunder on my part. I'm just glad they can't do much with the serial number. Thanks again guys.

I found out about this company on google. I called the phone number provided on the website. I talked to a lady on the phone, I told her what I wanted done. I told her my child owns an iphone 5, and I want to go through his deleted safari browsing history, to make sure he hasnt been going on things he shouldnt be. The lady that works for this company, told me that she is 100% sure that SHE CAN go back and look at old safari history, EVEN if it has been deleted. I asked her if she was sure, she told me that she is 100% sure that she can get the old deleted safari links, I asked her how? She told me that all phones store information, and its not easy to erase things permanently! I took her word for it, and said okay lets go on with the procedure. I really want to make sure my children are safe, so I was willing to pay the $100.00 . She told me she needs my credit card number, and she will transfer me to the "tech" I said okay! So I gave her my credit card number, she charged me the $100.00 and then I am waiting for the tech, the tech finally answers and asks me how can he help me. I told him I want my deleted browsing records for safari, and the "tech" said he could NOT help me. He said he cannot do this for iphones, only for the computers. But the lady that charged me, said that IT COULD be done. BUT the tech told me that it couldnt be done. So they said, sorry we cant help, and I asked for a refund, and they said they will transfer me to the billing department. I was on hold for about 15 minutes, and I finally heard a click on the other end, they hung up on me! I was really upset, because I felt cheated. So then I decided to call them back, I told the new person everything that happen, and they told me that the billing department was closed, and to call back tomorrow between 9-5, they also wanted to know why I wanted a refund. I told them why I wanted a refund, I told them that I wanted a refund because, I asked them to look up something for me, and they completely lied to me, they said they could do something, and they didnt do ANYTHING. So why should I pay $100.00 for them to tell me, they cant do anything for me? The guy then tried to transfer me to someone else, and then I talked to a lady, and she told me that she can't give me a full refund, but she could give me a partial refund. I was extremely upset, how can she charge me 100.00 but she cant refund me 100.00?

I feel like this company is a scam!!! They tell you they will do something, and they charge your card, and they say they cant do it!!!! They lie and take your money, and wont even give you a complete refund!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Jesus, glad you're not my parent. I'll assume that you bought your child's iPhone for them and as a parent you certainly do have the right to check out their phone but if your child is deleting their browsing history and you can't trust where they have been surfing enough to where you result to paying for a service to sleuth their deleted history, (I'm guessing porn?) then why give them an iPhone at all? Give them a simple phone for standard communication.

I'm guessing you don't children. I trust my kids but at the same time I'm no fool. There is nothing wrong with doing a little intelligence gathering from time to time.

Haha, well you guessed right, I don't have kids as of yet, however I wasn't at all questioning you micromanaging your kid's iPhone handling and web surfing habits. It's the right thing to do. I was saying, if you're willing to pay $100 to a place to sleuth your kid's iPhone then at that point you don't have as much trust in them you say you do so therefore why not just get them a phone that you can turn your back on them and be comfortable nothing will happen.

Sadly, today's society gives kids way too many social media devices and ends up being sorry they have done so.

The video posted by odev is so much like my experience with mytechhelp, I only watched a portion of it but now I'm scared. I had a Norton renewel reminder come up on my computer so I went ahead and paid for it then proceded to download it when it was almost complete it alerted me that it wasn't able to finish as I already had Mcgafee installed. I quickly did a google search for Norton to get my money back and cancel the install. I called the number top of the list and proceded to tell my situation. Honestly I don't remember if they mentioned they were mytech but I was under the understanding that I was talking to a Norton rep. He convinced me to allow him to clean up my computer as there will be numerous problems due to the fact that I had 2 security services. Once he remotely had control of my computer (I am now having huge anxiety not knowing enough about computers and what this man could now do) he proceded to show me the screen with multiple warnings on the page and that they were very dangerous for my computer and that I basically had no security and asked if I do any internet banking not to do it until the computer is fixed. After he explains the amounts of money he requires to fix the computer i decide to go for the package that costed me $158.26 for them to fix my computer and one month service if anything were to happen I could contact them for help. I was having no problem with my computer till after the service with MyTech, now the internet is slow and freezing requiring me to restart my computer plus my wireless router keeps failing. Is this them F'n with my computer and stuff or just a coincidence. i have contacted them via chat on my computer and they resolved the issue once but 2 days later I'm having issues again...I'm scared...now what...can they do more damage? can they access my computer at anytime now?

First of all, call your credit card company and dispute the charges, say it's a scam, get your money back. These cards have insurance for a reason.

Second, disconnect your computer from the internet and reinstall the OS. Manually back up any files on the computer you need first. Don't use a program that backs up the system, just copy the files you need. Once you have a clean install, and you put your drivers back on, download Microsoft Security Essentials for free and use that for your security. It works just as well, if not better, than pretty much every paid AV anyway.

I can't believe I was so stupid and fell for this scam. I have never let something like this happen before. Same as someone else said....will cost you 59.99 for the antivirus program and then you will get your money back....so he uninstalls my McAfee telling me that is the problem and starts to put in their program...only when he rebooted my system, it is password protected so he disconnected from remote access. So now I have no virus protection and a half downloaded one of theirs, which I am not keeping to say the least. I guess this will be a call to my computer guy who will be quite upset with me....and probably a very expensive ordeal. And my son (who started this and whose card this is on) will be calling the credit company and dispute the charges.

I got suspicious when I called a Dell number and they told me they do not work for them, and he hung up on me. Doing more research I pulled up a page for the company that stated Dell does not authorize them to work on their computers...and then the hours of operation showed they were not open on Sunday....today is Sunday and how the hell did I get to talk to support.....to much fishy stuff and then I get put on hold for 20 minutes 3 times as they are trying to connect me with someone!!! Yeah right.....

Just because a company shows up on the top of a google search does not make them a legitmate company!!!!

STAY CLEAR OF ANY COMPANY SAYING THEY CAN FIX YOUR COMPUTER UNLESS YOU ARE TALKING DIRECTLY TO DELL, APPLE OR WHOEVER.......

I AM GOING TO LEARN THE HARD WAY!!!

* several weeks later found out that the card I provided was somehow shared with someone in Jamaica who then charged porn on my card.

* made several calls to gather information and also online research

* contacted a very good law firm and they are willing to look at what I have

Almost Got Me

I google searched "Apple Care" and of course this **** ****er company came up called MYTECHHELP. I called it cuz i didnt know, and they almost got my CC.

My Tech Help SCAM

The same thing happened to me in May 2013, only I just now figured it out after reading these posts. So I am out $300 and don't have Applecare coverage after all.
