Apple to Construct New Retail Store in Dayton, Ohio

This is great for this area. The Greene is a nice upscale mall like the Easton Town Center in Columbus.

I agree. As a daytonian, it's been a pain in the butt to have to drive to Cincinnati or Columbus any time I've needed to get to the apple store. I'd imagine this will be a huge benefit to the growth of the Greene

I do not mean this as any dis-respect to anyone. However, these latest announcements makes me think that Apple has completed what it considers to be primary market and is now working on the secondary markets. I think this is good as it get fuller coverage across the country. I just wonder if they will get the same sales volumes as in a primary market like New York. I am sure they have this all figured out, but it would be interesting (at least to me) to understand how they select the markets and what kinds of assumptions they make as they go in.

Oh very nice. I am about a 20 minute drive from there. It is a nice area. Interesting how this will be only a few miles away from The Mac Depot.

For real though, can we get an Apple store in Indiana? We have only one and it's in Indianapolis. Why not Greenwood, Bloomingon, etc.

Is that an old, historical building or a new facsimile old building? Is it part of a strip mall or a regular mall (buildings surrounding a parking lot)?

The entire Greene complex is new. I want to say less than 10 years.

Awesome, finally an Apple store within 150 miles. Getting closer!

Considering some of us in secondary markets spend close to $100 in gas if we want to get to a primary market to visit an Apple store, I am sure they will do quite well. Those loyal to Apple will continue to dump cash into the stores and those who were never really exposed to Apple because they hadn't cared to head to one of their stores 100+ miles away will be more tempted.

Dayton is a great market for an Apple store. Dayton U. and Wright State there. They are the closest Apple store for cities like Lima that has 2 colleges itself. Might as well cash in as the wave of hipsterism peaks out in the sticks!

There's no way stores like this will have the same sales volume as the ones in big city markets. That's just common sense, I think. But, you're right - they've clearly built out their US network into all of the major cities. The only places left to tap are secondary cities like Dayton. Even within those secondary cities, you'll see Apple clearly pick out the high end retail shopping centers. It's a matter of image and of parking where people with disposable income frequently go.

I'm glad that I won't have to drive an hour to have something looked at or serviced. Dayton isn't a small city by any means, but certainly smaller than Chicago or New York City. However, there are several larger cities in close proximity to Dayton though, as well as Wright Patt Air Force Base, so my guess is that most of their income will come from those residents.

Hard to believe they are going up against MacTown

Unless the owners of MacTown want to exit the retail market, it's hard to believe that Apple would locate a store at The Greene to compete against one of its authorized resellers. Apple doesn't do that…or has never done that in the past. However, The Greene fits their demographic and location requirements, although it doesn't do quite the business that Easton does for a lifestyle center location. However…I could be wrong…but it makes no sense to have two Apple-only retailers in the same development like The Greene.

Besides…I really like MacTown and their customer service.

And, the other local reseller, Mac Depot, is just down the road. An Apple store would put them both out of business.

Another location mentioned in the Dayton Daily News was Austin Landing…but Apple only locates their stores in high shopper traffic locations…and Austin Landing doesn't meet that criteria.

My guess (and I could be wrong) is they will put a store in either Dayton or Fairfield Mall. Both malls are undergoing lots of store changes, new retailers, etc. And, you get lots of walk by traffic in the malls.

Going by what others have said about primary and secondary US markets, the resellers existed in places where Apple stores didn't exist. They served a purpose. Now that Apple is poised to own these secondary cities, I think the Apple resellers will slowly but surely get phased out. They are no longer needed by Apple to serve a segment; and why pay a middleman?

Mac Town to close the Greene location

The authorized reseller announced they are closing. This is not surprising.

Mac Town going out of business

Just received an email that the Mac Town store that was not at the Greene but located in Dayton is now going out of business at the end of the month.

I wonder when the store will open at the Greene.

I'm sure the Mac Town store closing and Apple opening was all in leasing agreements with The Greene. My guess is that The Greene leasing team were vying for an Apple Store and Mac Town's lease was nearing completion. I'm sure The Greene wouldn't renew the Mac Town lease in favor of having a retailer like Apple who would pay much more $$ /sq. ft. as well as diversify their portfolio more and push it towards the higher, designer end of things.

Easton Town Center is less than 15 minutes from my house. It has some more designer branded, A class stores and is MUCH larger than The Greene. Glad to see that the developers Steiner + Associates are having some more success attracting bigger, A class tenants to The Greene. It is definitely the development for Apple to be in for the Dayton/I-75 corridor area and I'm sure leasing agreements went well considering their existing Tenant/Management relationship with Easton.

MacDepot has in home and business service so I don't think that they will go out of business. I also know that most of their work is done in house and that may help out with shipping cost on Apple. But on the other hand MacDepot does not do any support with iOS making it a pain if you do have an issues with an iPod, iPhone, or iPad.

Going out of Business

MacTown in Dayton is going out of business and has AMAZING SALES!!!! I got an Airport Extreme Time Capsule 2TB for $100 NEW! New Apple Keyboard, Mouse, and Trackpad for $20 Each and Apple cables/adapters for $5 each.

The construction barriers have been removed.

Looks like they got smart and learned some lessons from other sites and installed some anti drive through barriers....iBarriers.

I'm all for opening new Apple Stores in places that don't already have one.

But I'm hoping Apple does not announce any new Apple Stores in Donetsk (East Ukraine), Moscow, or Gaza any time soon.

This is great! It's really near to me. Excited to open it. I need to see that at Admission-service.com for me to be sure.
