I have been using my TV via ATV as an extra monitor, defaulting to it as my main monitor. I just leave my MBP open and turn the MBP's screen brightness all the way down (in my mind) to conserve energy and protect the MBP's screen from burn-in etc. Is this advisable? I have never heard anyone reference doing this and wanted to double check. It is a good idea if I am going to be ignoring the notebook's screen anyhow, right?
