iPod Ipod classic 4gen 20gb not booting

Picked this up for $10 and the lady said it never got wet but she hasn't used it in years. It won't boot at all, dead screen. I've tried plugging it in all night, tried holding the menu/play pause. Does this mean it needs a new hdd or battery?
