Hi guys, I have a white MacBook here that I upgraded the hard drive to a bigger size, and I'm trying to install Snow Leopard Server on it. I keep getting an error "Mac OSX cannot be installed on this computer." I read some other posts on here where people said you have to create a 5GB partition for it to work, but that didn't do the trick for me. Could it be because I'm trying to install the Server version, or should that matter? Thanks

What OS was on the Macbook before?
Exactly which model white Macbook do you have?
Which version of Snow Leopard Server do you have? Both 10.6 and 10.6.3 were available from retail. Is it a retail version of the software or is it a bundled one from a different model of computer?
I have an early macbook pro 2011.
It came with 10.6.X on it. I have a retail 10.6 and a retail 10.6.8. Neither will run on my system. Thanks Apple. The restore disks that come with the machine will work just fine.
In any case, I use Mavericks anyway...so does not matter much.
Your issue may be the same. you might need a specialized installer for your device.

Yea, I doubt this guy could support Mavericks, let alone Lion with it's GPU. Like this has a 2.0Ghz C2D, i upgraded the 1GB RAM it had to 4GB, and the 80GB drive to 320GB. So some significant upgrades, but I need to get SL on here somehow. I kind of wonder if i install the OS on the drive on another machine, then swap the drives if it'll boot.
Snow Leopard server requires a minimum 10GB partition.

I don't quite understand what you're saying. You were trying to install it to a 5GB partition? If so, as above, that won't work. Even 10GB is going to be extremely tight.
Do you really need to use Server rather than standard Snow Leopard?
Sorry, i was trying to say that since i have a 320GB drive, I think i have enough space to install it. But I just opened up a 2nd partition to 10GB, and i was able to get past the error, then restored it back to 1 partition and it's installing now. Thanks
10.6.8 worked here on 2010 15 inch MBP - very successfully for a couple of years.
Hmm. Maybe it was 10.5 and earlier. I just remember being hugely frustrated that I could not install server on my brand new, at the time, 2008 15" Core 2 Duo MBP with 8GB of ram, but it was totally cool to install it on a Core Duo iMac with 1GB of ram.
