Hello, I am looking at purchasing my first usb 3 hub, to use with my Caldiget Thunderbolt Station.

The Thunderbolt Station supports UASP, but I am having trouble finding usb 3 hubs that also support it. The only ones I have found is from Vantec, but they are listed as coming soon, and are not available.

http://www.vantecusa.com/en/product/pro_list/122

Does anyone know of any usb 3 hubs with UASP support that have been released?

Thanks!

It is the external drive that needs to support UASP.

Hub is strictly pass thru and has no effect on UASP one way or another.

The USB 3.0 drives at the Apple store support UASP.

Apparently this is not always the case. See this article.

"I've notice that if you plug your device into a USB hub, it does not load up the UASP kext. So take note. Even with some USB 3.0 hubs, the device will drop down to BOT Mass storage. This will be interesting to take note in the future."

Thanks for that. I learn something new every day!

Must be a non - compliant hub. There have been quite a few in the past several years.

I wonder how the Belkin hub in the Apple Store behaves.

Just to update, I searched and searched for USB hubs that specifically mentioned uasp support, except for the vantech posted above (still not available), the only one I found was the Koutech IO-HU434 4-Port SuperSpeed.

Anyway, for $18 shipped I thought I would give it a try. I wish there were some reviews from Mac users, I couldn't find any.

Just to update, I tried the hub I listed about, and it allows the UASP drives to work thru the hub. (which should be no surprise as it is listed in the specs.)

I guess that is one more thing for us to look for, to make sure that any hubs we buy has UASP listed in the specs.

Most have been calling this Super Speed for some time, not UASP.
It's very hard to tell if the Hub will cause a problem based on this simple description. I would be nice, but I doubt we'll see many comply.

My understanding is that superspeed is just another marketing term for USB 3.

UASP is something that is layered on top of USB 3, but also not included in all USB chipsets.

The hub I purchased specifically listed UASP support in it's specs, and UASP is actually printed on the hub itself.

Anyway it looks like so far that USB 3 with UASP is working fine thru this hub, while many/(all?) of the other hubs that don't list UASP support are stripping it out unless they connect the UASP device directly to the computer.

Hopefully more known UASP compatible USB 3 hubs will be released in the future as USB 3 becomes more standard.

FYI it looks like those Vantec hubs listed in my first post were just released, so they may be another option for UASP supported 3.0 hubs.

It's in a chipset/driver on the computer and external drive device - it should not have anything to do with the hub, BUT I agree some cheap hubs will knock the USB back down to the old BOT (aka usb2) speed. The hub you found is just using the UASP term for marketing. Many USB3 hubs are OK but don't bother with this.

On externals, ASmedia is a typical name with a few revisions. On 2012 plus macs, there's support, but there's no ID other than USBXHCI driver and, yes the name SuperSpeed in the sys info when a UASP capable device is connected and on ;)
