Recent Items in Apple Menu: set different values for apps, docs & servers?

Hi,

So the General prefpane seems to have removed the option to have separate values for Applications, Documents & servers, and changing the com.apple.recentitems.plist file to have different values just ends up getting overwritten within a minute or so.

Does anyone know of a way to have different values for recent apps, documents and servers in the apple menu - ie 30 apps, zero documents?
