I've inherited an old Apple Cinema Display - aluminium model. It has what looks like rust spots on it which I'd like to try and remove - attached image shows some of them.

Any recommendations as to how to proceed without damaging the aluminium? They don't just wipe off with a damp cloth so I guess I'll need to try something slightly abrasive but not sure if it is just an aluminium surface 'finish' or solid aluminium?

If those are scratches, you can't make them go away. Cleaner perhaps, but if you buff with #0000 steel wool or something like it, the alu will get glossy in place of the scratch. The original surface is a very fine texture coat.
