Users folder now hidden on 10.9.3?? (SOLVED!)

just updated to 10.9.3. the root level folder on my mac does not show the Users folder...

it's grey when i backtrack to it in the path bar (from, say Documents).

anyone else have the Users folder hidden???? :confused:


EDIT: it was iTunes, and apple has posted a fix (17may)...

I too just updated to 10.9.3. The folder is there for me, though.

However, the update did hide my ~/Library folder again.
 
Not on my Macs. Not even after doing a repair permissions (some people managed to get their /Users folder hidden after doing that). Strange bug.
 
My Users folder is perfectly visible, as is my Home folder (Mac Pro 1,1 with Tiamo's boot.efi, OS X 10.9.3).
 
odd. i repaired permissions, rebooted. twice. and Users folder is still hidden.
anyone have any ideas? and how can i unhide the folder?

EDIT: odd, it's hidden in all views (i.e. icon, list).
i can see it in the path bar, and clicking on it there brings it up...as a greyed-out icon (i CAN get in to it tho).

any ideas? or is there a terminal command that would unhide it??

actually, it's worse than that. the Shared folder in my Users folder is ALSO hidden..! (i thought it was gone).

so:
Users and Shared folders are both greyed out. my home folder IS visible...

i dragged both to the sidebar, so i CAN get to them. but...???? :eek:

This is not the same. What fisher king is referring to is if you go to Macintosh HD in Finder the Users folder you can see here in my screenshot is hidden for some after the 10.9.3 update.

exactly; i was missing the Users file there, but got to it going backwards from Documents in the Path Bar; then, inside Users, Shared was also hidden...

am happy it's fixed, but curious why this happened...

I think it is something odd going on with the 10.9.3 update. It happened to me also and I noticed several people in the main 10.9.3 thread mentioned it too.
 
My Users folder is visible. I ran Onyx after the install and let it do its automation tasks. That might have done something.
 
Wow. Is it just me, or has Mavericks been ridiculed with bug after bug? I honestly am ready to vote Mavericks as one of the worst versions of OS X to date. Even Lion didn't have all those issues (AFAIK, Lion had issues with Wi-Fi, it didn't affect me).

I guess I'm not upgrading :(
 
All software has bugs. That said, Mavericks is the best OS X to date and you should upgrade.

agreed. this IS a problem, and i look forward to a permanent solution. but overall...mavericks is pretty impressive, solid. like chabig says......

I for one am really getting tired of the yearly-OS fashion show. Mavericks works very good on my three Macs. I did like some of Lion's features better but I failed to save ML Mail, iPhoto, etc.

Had I been smart enough to save them I would gone back to ML on all three machines. The file name color codes that turned in to colored dots really goofed up the way I mark my photographic and media files.

I have vowed that unless there is something really spectacularly great like Blu-ray, FLAC or other high definition support I am going to get off the yearly update train. I predict that Microsoft will be off the yearly OS fashion show with a couple of years.
 
Welp, permissions might be PART of the problem with the Users folder. Just did a permissions repair (my Users folder is also invisible) and this popped up:

But, the problem still isn't fixed.

Mine was like that too but after running the terminal commands, booting into recovery DU and repairing permissions, then rinse & repeat it stayed put. It's working well for me now. It even boots about 3 sec. faster.

But what is this file circled in red? Does anyone else have this? It's a zero byte file and it was probably there before the update. I'm guessing it was put there by some app. perhaps. I don't know, does anyone else have this?

UPDATE:

It's back to hidden again and I didn't even reboot. I don't suppose it hurts anything, but I would like to know the cause.

Users Folder Missing... on 10.9.2

Here's something weird to throw into the mix. My Users folder mysteriously disappeared this afternoon, but I'm still on 10.9.2.

One of you guys mentioned that you ran Onyx after the update. I ran Onyx this afternoon (version 2.8.5). Is it possible that it's a bug in Onyx? How many of you ran Onyx before or after the update today?
