I've just tried to clean up my iPhone 5S using PhoneClean, downloaded and installed the new update but even in quick scan all it will do now is scan and is asking me to buy a subscription to actually clean the phone. Does anyone know of any other free apps that will do the same job on a non-jailbroken device?

Free apps to clean up junk files? Try iMyfone Umate Free. it can remove junk files selectively and it's free.
But how can we get a free license? Maybe it is not easy. A free replacement has its own merit.
