External slim case

I bought the Moshi iGlaze. It looks great and is very easy to install but be careful, it has no texture and can be very slippery.

I picked up the Speck SeeThru with crystal finish.
Works great, except for the decorations I put under the case and around the edges it's invisible. Barely adds any weight and the added thickness is very minimal. Worth it if you ask me.

However if that's not what you're looking for you might try the Zagg option. It's basically just a film, but I'm a little leery about that on a MacBook. A phone screen is one thing, an aluminum laptop is another.

I got a cheap chinese clear hard rubber one off ebay for £10.
It is only about 1mm thick, and leaves my rMBP looking sleek.

I haven't experienced any heat issues at all.
Running at 36C as I type.

If you decide you don't like the Speck. I highly recommend the Tech21 mesh case. I think it is a little lighter with a slimmer profile than the speck while not sacrificing protection.

As long as there is vent holes on the bottom like a Speck, a hardshell will have similar heat levels.

Considering the shells have their own rubber feet, its better for the shell to take the wear as on rMBP/Airs you can't get a foot replacement like the cMBPs... why Apple did this boggles the mind

...considering I lost a foot on my old 12" PowerBook G4 once, a wobbly notebook ain't fun
