Reminds me of my days valeting cars. My iPhone 4 (new at the time) slipped out of the super slippery pockets that dress pants have, had to look through like 40 cars hahah but I found it. Some of the other valets have seen their phones drive away with new owners just like your situation. It's a ******* situation but there's still some hope. On a side note, you could always get a 5s on eBay, I got my flawless 2 month old 64GB 5s for 540 bucks, enough to buy two with that 1200. Hopefully it turns up for you.:(

By the way, Google maps are not a live Satellite feed. The white car you see is likely just a coincidence.

Yep, I know that. The street view said 2014 images so Im thinking they took a picture of the same car infront of the house the phone was tracked to. Either way I can't prove anything and I'm not about to get into a fight with her. She looked decent. For all I know she has a junkie boyfriend who grabbed the phone off her and turned it off. I've filed an online lost property report with the police and all the details. Lets see if they can find it for me.

Just what do you have her arrested for. She did not steal the phone, it was left in her vehicle by the owner. That is not illegal.

Thats true, she wasn't trying to steal my phone. But it would be theft if she found it and decided to keep it. That would be a crappy thing to do.

Thanks for sharing, man I can't explain that sinking feeling when I was walking back to my car and I put my hand in my pocket to get my phone. I was like FUUUUUUUU....

Finding something that does not belongs to you and not return it it's illegal!

Sorry but you can not arrest someone for not returning what was left in their car.

I agree it would be a crappy thing to do but the phone might be between her seat and the console or slipped where she does not even know it is there. Regardless she did not steal the phone. She might have found it after the battery is dead and has no way to charge it.

OP knew his phone was prone to falling out of his shorts yet didn't even check when he exited the vehicle. I have a feeling the phone could be between her seats without her knowing.

If I understand correctly, You were in the parking lot of a mall. Most Malls have security cameras set up for their own protection Check the mall where you were to see if maybe they can check the security footage and get a plate number. It's a shot

She needed help to back out of a simple parking space ? Really ? WHY ?

What was so difficult in backing out her self ?

She let you in her car, and backed out for her ? Really ? You, a stranger

Where was she during this back up ?

How old was she ? teenager ?

I know what your thinking, she wanted him to sign up for Obamacare.

It just seems like someone should probably know how to back up their own car. Seems too suspicious to me

The OP said reverse gear couldn't be engaged, which can happen, and he had to push the car out. Anyway, she couldn't have made the phone fall out of his shorts while he was in the drivers seat. She could have pick-pocketed it, but OP says she was never close enough.

So although I suggested earlier she might be a professional thief, what the OP says since does not support that.

There are a lot of drivers that struggle with basics. Though in this case looked like the car had gearbox issues

Got a new iPhone, same one same price. Man unlocked phones are expensive. Its good I had the money to dish out. I'm hoping I find the old one, ill pass it on to my sister. I put in a lost property report with the police and blacklisted the IMEI with VirginMobile. I'll update here incase I here good news.

Yep its solely my fault. It happened to me many times in my own car should have thought about securing my phone. Only I think it would have been nice of her to return it. Apple assured me the phone is useless with activation lock on.

If their happened to be a Target you might be in luck, they have some pretty insane surveillance, I saw them pull someones credit card number off a camera that wasn't even zoomed in and it was like crystal clear, Target even has a forensics division...that was back in '07 too....but I'm betting any nice mall should have surveillance cameras. So see if you can get the tapes! Its fun to play investigator and you have good cause to do it.

Target will only give the tapes to the police. The police won't get involved because the op told them he lost it.

Yeah I guess you'd really have to have them to sift through them...my mom had her card stolen so LE was obviously involved, they didn't seam to mind us checking out their "command center" as it were. Still it probably can't hurt to ask, worst thing they can say is no. Side note: Were you in the service? I just noticed your username.
