iPhone 6 Battery Supply Woes Alleviated With Addition of New Supplier

Following reports earlier this year that suppliers' struggles to produce an adequate volume of wafer-thin batteries for the rumored 5.5-inch iPhone 6 may contribute to an early 2015 launch for the device rather than a late 2014 launch alongside the smaller 4.7-inch model, a new report from Chinese media sources (via GforGames) suggests the problem may have been solved as Apple has found a new supplier capable of meeting demand.

The report claims that Dynapack has been pushed to sidelines of Apple's supply chain as Simplo and Desai become the main suppliers of batteries for the rumored iPhone 6. While Desai reportedly is struggling to work within Apple's design constraints, Simplo supposedly has designed a workaround that allows it to produce mass quantities of the thin, but efficient battery module. If this report is accurate, then battery supply may not be an issue for Apple going forward.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 6 at a media event around its usual September timeframe. The next-generation iPhone is rumored to feature a larger display, thinner design, improved camera optics, enhanced Touch ID sensor and a new, faster A8 processor.

Does it have battery issues or doesn't it?

We've been going back and forth for quite a while now; at a certain point, you have to just sit and wait for the announcement.

I don't like the idea of a supplier doing a "workaround" of Apple's specifications.

If this funky reports are to be believed - you would think Apple would have certified a component as critical as batteries a year ago.

The full models (non-S) are probably on a 18-24 month cycle

Longest sentence ever is long and requires punctuation and editing.
Found that difficult to read in one take.

Another iPhone 6 rumor....

In other news:
White girl sues UGGs because the slip resistant sole failed when she stepped in a puddle of Starbucks and cracked her gold iPhone 5S.

More on this story at 11.

I wonder if the workaround involves lunchtime and weekends being canceled for their workforce.

Interesting that this shows up on the iOS blog when the original story was front page news. I guess "Apple sacrificing battery life for the sake of thinness" rumor generates more negativity and thus more clicks so it gets front page status.

I'll pick some up with my wafer-thin mints.

This is nothing new at all. Every release cycle always have some sort of technical difficulties. We all know it's just marketing.

The true news (though pretty sad to be called news) is when there's a post about Apple has resolve all issues and release any iDevices as planned.

Tomorrow's story: According to Chinese media sources, Apple having trouble with designing the A8 chip, may have to go back to the drawing board.

Or maybe MacRumors listed to all the people that complained "why is this front page news" the last time around, and agreed. Or maybe its as simple as a different editor making a judgment call this time around as to where it should go. It is a virtual impossibility for them to do it any way at all without someone complaining.

See... this picture is proof that you can not only hold a 5.5" iPhone with one hand but that you can hold THREE!

Every year we have stories of technical difficulty.
Then we have stories re-reporting the first story.
Then stories collaborating the first story but mostly based on fact that it was re-reported.
Then we have stories of the problem suddenly disappearing just in time for the release to be pretty much the expected week.

I thinks it's fair to say there is no true news here.

Based on the reports the iPhone 6 4.7 might be release this September 10, 2014 while the 5.5 version might be next year
