Not sure what the fuss is about, don't recalled apple ever actually said this was a model refresh or a significant upgrade. They just put out a press release that said $100 less and a slightly better CPU if you order the 11". Other internal parts may be changeable and could have been several times since production begun. No one open hundred of them to check every single part number throughout the year as newer batches arrive to customers.

I got mine in 2013, as far as I and most of the rest of the world care, you bought the 2013 models, with a slightly different base config for 11" and you got it $100 cheaper, that's all.

If yer wanted About Mac to say a different thing than 2013, should have waited until next year for a different CPU architecture...

This makes no sense at all. Why should one person have a computer that says "Early 2014" and the other have one that says "2013" when they both purchased the same 2014 model? Also, who is to say it is always a fluke in "about this mac"? What if some who bought the 11" model are not getting the 2014 model with the slight spec bump and the "2013" in their "about this mac" is actually correct, meaning their machine has different specs?

What if they bought a 2014 model, but got a 2011 model? What then? Or maybe they purchased a Mac Pro but received a Mac Mini...what if, what it, what if...we can play this game all night.

No one has proven that it is only a problem with "About this mac" and not that, indeed, people were shipped 2013 models. Even if it is "only" a problem with "about this mac," it is still a problem.

If they were shipped 2013 models it would be a problem, but one that would be easy to prove by simply posting a picture of the box label. However, nobody has done that.

Even if it is "only" a problem with "about this mac," it is still a problem.

Yes. One that will no doubt be fixed in software.

Apple never should have even changed that, the only difference was 1 additional CPU variation.

You can tell the CPU clock speed, if you get the 1.3 instead of 1.4, exchange it...

Specs differentiation is relative, people on here been complaining about different screens and SSD manufacturers for a long time. Truth is all Apple products are the model Apple say it is, the interior is not relevant given numerous part suppliers in the supply chain. You ONLY have a case if you ordered soecifically the 1.4GHZ machine and they gave you are 1.3. Anything else not part of Advertised spec they can change. They're happy to let you do exchanges, but legally they don't have to.

Has anyone tried 10.10 on the newest MacBook air? does it still say 2013, or the label gets fixed? Just curious if it is a "about the mac" glitch in the current 10.9

Well, I don't have a MBA to let you know if you were asking me, however last night I was reading another MBA thread on this forum in which many people are getting another "about this mac" error-- the information is displaying in Estonian instead of English! A number of people said that they saw this glitch even on display models (in Best Buy especially). Seems to me that "About this Mac" may be having some problems after all, as others have mentioned, that might be fixable via software update. I hope this is the case.

I bought a 2013 MBA with all the BTO specs maxxed out - i7, 8GB, 512GB, etc. and it's the same specs as the 2014. So yeah, same thing.

haha my new 2014 air isn't even showing a date on the "about this mac". i guess apple became aware of this thread and decided not to show the date to do away with this trivial fuss. :D
