Every iPhone I've had, iPhone 3G and iPhone 4 has slowed down significantly after about yow years of ownership. In my case, the iPhone 5 I have is just as fast and responsive as it was 2 years ago.
I also used 3G yes it's too slow, because of the updates available. but now I'm planning to have iPhone 5.. For the better

My iPhone 5 is jailbroken on iOS 6.1. Haven't had an update notice since February 2013.
No real issues, hardware or software wise.
Yes, when It's started to jail break, it can't update about the IOS.
