Need help connecting to smb server

Try this:
https://users.wfu.edu/yipcw/atg/apple/smb/

if your SMB is a Windows system on win domain then for the username try this:
win\username
password: your win domain password.

You didn't tell us how you are trying to connect? It should be as simple as choosing "Go" > "Connect to Server", and then using a URL like "smb://username@servername/sharename".

This also applys if your mac is a member of the same domain as the file server. If the mac is not a member of the domain but the fileserver is using domain accounts for security, then you will need to follow akalehzan's advice for prepending the domain and a backslash before your username.

Also, make sure that you can "ping servername" from terminal.
