Unlikely folding will help you direct tomorrow. Folding is one (early) part of the overall research and development process which can eventually lead to therapies and new drugs; which can be a lengthy process.

As such it supports the scientists to basically understand how proteins changing their shape in 3-dimensions causing diseases.

Folding@home is not the only project for distributed computing; but a pioneer in this area. More you can get from here http://folding.stanford.edu/home/

and much more details on published papers: http://folding.stanford.edu/home/papers

This said: there is already lots of science done with folding. Oh, and the early fathers of the methodology got last year the Nobel Prize: http://folding.stanford.edu/home/congratulations-to-michael-levitt/

That's terrible news. Soon the MacRumors front page will be cluttered with news stories: "Folding Team Reaches 2 Billion Points", "Folding Team Reaches 3 Billion Points", etc. There'll be no more room for Apple news!

2'000'000'000 in 3 to 6 hours ... Next goal Quad-billion
