G'day,

Looking for more network storage... Was just going to grab a 3TB WD USB drive, which I'd seen for about $140... but they're all gone... Instead noticed they had a 4TB WD NAS system for $350...

Lot more money... for only 1TB... but ethernet instead of USB2...

(No USB3 in my house as yet)

So - will I notice a difference between a USB drive and a ethernet drive?

Thanks,

cosmic

You may only notice a difference when moving massive amount of data from one drive to another, say more than 500GB.

Typically a NAS product will provide much better data throughput vs a AEBS+drive. Dunno about the WD product, however.

The one in question has been marked down around $150... I think it's been replaced by WD's "Cloud" model?

Think I'll just go the cheaper option and get the external drive and hook it to the AEBS...

I know that my AEBS "Simultaneous Dual Band" sucks for this, with the disk disconnecting many times and getting corrupted.

I tried it with 2 different enclosures.

And a few different AEBS firmwares.

And even got the AEBS "repaired" to no avail.

It is also really slow at this, even on ethernet, not worth it.

The newer ones are much faster and more reliable.

Picked up a 4TB WD "cloud"... instead of the "4TB" raid duo... $313 at JB.

Hopefully will help with my data speeds for my HTPC...
