I tried to install the OWC Mercury SSD 3G in the lower drive bay of my G5 but the computer crashed. It didn't work.

I reinstalled it in my MacPro and it works without problems. I guess the slow SATA 1 of my G5 doesn't like the OWC SSD.

Resolved!

Today, I was able to install my Mercury OWC SSD with an Icy Dock in my G5 Dual Core 2.3.
I installed it in the upperbay of the internal SATA1.
No crashes anymore (I guess the SSD was slightly damaged before)
The computer boots up significantly faster and the applications launch faster too.
The slow SATA1 bus remains however a bottleneck.

Not worth investing that into a G5, why didn't you get a Mac Pro? 2006/2007 or whatever.
Anyone that can answer why the SSD is so slow in a G5 but not on modern macs?

Once again a useless post...

The SSD will not run at full speed due to the SATA I chip set on board. There still is a good reason and upgrade by using an SSD in a G5.

I want to run Classic applications on an old but fast PowerMac.
And believe me, the speed improvement is noticeable. ;)
