So if you could only have one iPod which one would you pick out of every model made?

For me it would be the 6th Gen iPod Nano. It just amazes me.

For me, it would be the "Fifth Generation iPod (Late 2006)". AKA 5.5G iPod Video.
It has the most responsive click wheel of them all, and is easy to modify with a CF to ZIF adapter or a larger HDD. It also has the Wolfson DAC, for what it's worth.

Here's a pic of my 80GB 5.5G.

Alternatively, my iPod classic:

I just bought it a few months ago and I love it. The click wheel on the 5th gen is much more responsive for me though. But I wanted something that was brand new and would be around for years to come, and this was it. I'm also wondering just how long it'll hang around.

I really liked my old Nano. I only have a Classic 160GB model now, and it does take some time to scroll through everything in my car. I've considered picking up another Nano.

I would choose my loyal iPod Classic. Has been with me for many years now and I love it.

In a coffee shop.
Undoubtedly, the iPod classic.

Actually, I had the wonderful 80GB version that others have already posted about here, and more recently, bought the 160GB version (I have around 80GB music stored on this device and it accompanies me everywhere…..)

+1 for this. Plus the 5.5 has the best OS in my opinion. I don't like the navigation of the latest classic.

I realize this thread is about one's favorite iPod to date, but at the risk of hijacking the thread, I wonder how Apple would or should answer this question.

If Apple were to keep only single iPod model in the product line up, I think it should be iPod nano with a wider range of storage capacities and design more similar to 6th generation nano (while adding 7th generation features such as Bluetooth). I would offer:
  • $69 4GB iPod nano without EarPod: while this represents $20 price increase over iPod shuffle, I think larger storage capacity and Lightning connector (for compatibility with automobiles) would appease most shuffle supporters.
  • $149: 32GB iPod nano with EarPods
  • $299: 128GB iPod nano with EarPods: 128GB is smaller than 160GB of the classic, but I think 128GB would be sufficient for most classic users. 256GB would be better of course, but the market is probably very small.

I always wanted the Harry Potter edition iPod video :) As for iPods I've actually owned, probably my 80gb Classic. I have a 1st gen Shuffle somewhere, but unfortunately with moving around while in college it's in a box somewhere, and I'm not sure which one.

Now that the iPod classic has been discontinued, I would love to get my hands on one solely for music in my car... :(

I'm running out of space on my 32GB iPhone...

If I could only choose one to have, I would pick my 10GB 3rd gen iPod. It's a wonderful little music player with great sound and truly unique looks!

My first ever iDevice was an iPod Nano 3G. I might get it out of the box again and start using it. Last time I used it was a goof few years ago. Was nice for TV shows despite the tiny screen. So awesome!
