I really don't want to buy another SSD drive, 500 gig now and its getting filled up.
I try and keep unnecessary stuff off it but over time it just gets bigger.
I have never done a clean instal after some many generations of new OS.s

I am not looking forward to doing that because I have so many programs and afraid of losing stuff.

Any ideas? a good cleaner program?

If you did an"Upgrade" to 10.9 then doe load the free program EtreCheck and what you see in red has to be updated or manually deleted. Plus in your favorite using browser empty your Internet cache and go into System Preferences->Flash Player and delete all the stored cookies.

OmniDiskSweeper.

Not intelligent in that it will know/suggest what to delete, but will show in descending order the disk resources hogs and allows you to manually delete what you want.

So delete carefully.

Let it run a bit: might take a little while to index everything.
